Director of Technology

Position Summary

The Director of Technology is responsible for providing the vision, leadership and management of all academic and information technology systems and services to advance the mission of the school. As a member of and in coordination with the schools senior leadership team, this role sets the strategic direction and is involved with the practical implementation of that direction in the academic program and operations of the school. The Director of Technology is expected to provide vision and direction for school-wide technology. The ideal candidate will support innovative instructional practices amongst the faculty, and work with all division leaders to promote the thoughtful evolution and integration of technology across all areas of school life-instructional, administrative, and others. The ideal candidate will possess both educational understanding, technological expertise, and be willing to provide all levels of technology support. The Director will manage the technology department providing leadership oversight and development of people, equipment, software, systems and budgets. The Director of Technology will also lead the school's cybersecurity efforts and planning.

Essential FunctionsSupervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages staffing of the technology team including, hiring, training, goal-setting, and team strategy forecasting.
  • Schedules, organizes, and assigns projects to members of the technology team.
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Handles leadership responsibilities for the technology team, which may include, disciplinary, coaching/development team skills, and monitoring performance of employees as needed and in accordance with school policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Collaboration with all levels of users to understand the current state, and project future states of the technology footprint within the school including providing measurable results in the area of classroom supports and response to technology challenges
  • Leads development and implementation processes for the organization's IT systems and department.
  • Develops and implements business continuity protocols to minimize disruption to business operations in the event of emergency situations or data loss.
  • Establishes efficiency and efficacy standards, providing recommendations for improvement of IT infrastructure.
  • Continual review and analysis of IT infrastructure and systems performance to assess operating costs, productivity levels, upgrade requirements, and other metrics and needs.
  • Assess data storage usage, needs present and future. Compile, establish, or maintain a data backup plan including implementation.
  • Maintain expertise in the field of technology while proactively seeking ways to actively continue education for technology professionals. The right candidate will serve as the subject matter expert and will need to be connected to and informed of the latest technological advancements.
  • Oversees security of systems, networks, and enterprise information.
  • Serve as the school's spokesperson and ambassador for technology initiatives
  • Facilitates IT security audits or investigations.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with external IT vendors and service providers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Proficient in Google Suite or related software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, management and leadership skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Through understanding of IT and practical applications in an educational setting

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science required; master's degree or MBA preferred.
  • At least ten years of experience in successful management of an IT department in an educational institution or similar
  • Teacher-leader orientation with a willingness and ability to implement professional development training for faculty and staff
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills with action oriented inclinations with strong decision making capabilities and the ability to take responsibility for results
  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and cybersecurity best practices preferred

Working Conditions

Heathwood Hall provides educational experience to children beginning at the age of two through 12th grade. The campus covers many acres and the ability to move around the campus is expected. This role is expected to work on site, as this opportunity is not a remote role. Prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer may be required depending on the needs of the day. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
