Job Summary

The Safety Manager is responsible for continuously monitoring and adapting safety procedures and operations to ensure a safe and fully compliant work environment for all team members. Additionally, the Safety Manager will serve as the Department of Transportation (DOT) subject matter expert and be responsible for the companys compliance in relation to these standards. The Safety Manager is a member of the Vermeer Midwest Board of Directors, and must contribute to the growth of all Vermeer Midwest divisions.

Essential Functions

  • Designs and directs safety training programs to reduce accidents, occupational illness, and exposure to long-term health hazards.
  • Develop team member plans and policies for new team member safety orientation including skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment.
  • Develop content for weekly safety stand-up meetings.
  • Studies, identifies, and reports causes of past accidents and develops recommendations and follow-up to prevent accident recurrences.
  • Visit VMW dealerships throughout the year to attend meetings and to examine current safety procedures in action.
  • Research developments in safety technology and recommend new equipment or methods to the safety committee.
  • Facilitate bi-weekly safety meetings with the safety committee.
  • Ensure compliance of Department of Transportation regulations.

Non-Essential Functions

  • Facilitate bi-weekly safety meetings with the safety committee.
  • File annual OSHA 300 logs
  • Run Kaizen events annually
  • Report workers compensation claims and enter OSHA recordable accidents in iSolved
  • Review DOT scorecard and take appropriate action for those falling minimum requirements

Qualifications

  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

  • Ability to lead and teach a team.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts in simple terms.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members, other agencies, and the public.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, and the internet.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree of occupational safety and health, or related degree is preferred.
  • At least five years of organizational safety experience preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and DOT standards preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead and teach a team.
