General Position Summary: The Coordinator of Middle School Youth Ministry is responsible for developing a comprehensive youth ministry program to guide all middle school students in the parish’s geographic bounds through the process of evangelization and catechesis. In collaboration with the Pastor, Director of Formation, and Faith Formation department, this person shares the responsibility spread the Gospel as a “Spirit-filled evangelizer… fearlessly open to the working of the Holy Spirit.” (Evangelii Gaudium, 259)


Principle Accountabilities:


Middle Ministries:

• Oversee Good Shepherd’s Middle Ministries program, reaching the middle school students in the parish primarily through:

o Weekly Middle Ministries Programming Nights (Wednesday evenings)

o Year-round small group discipleship programs

o Retreats, Lock-ins, and service opportunities

o Pre-evangelization events, especially over the summer

o Home study opportunities for those students unable to attend in person

• Grow Middle Ministries’ Programming Night by:

o Developing cutting-edge curriculum, balancing relatability and depth,

o Engaging the middle school students through immersive, lively games,

o Training the Core Team in evangelization and discipleship,

o Intentionally crafting small group time around accompaniment and the continual call to conversion,

o Connecting with the parish at-large through promotion and various events,

o And any other strategies as discerned in conjunction with the Faith Formation Department.

• Collaborate with volunteers to implement the weekly programming nights and middle school events, communicating about food, setup, small group expectations, and any other details as needed.

• Oversee the Middle and High School Faith Formation Administrative Assistant’s performance of the logistical duties necessary to maintain the quality of Middle Ministries, including organizing registrations, organizing events and spreadsheets in Planning Center, producing the weekly Constant Contact, and any other needed tasks.

• Address any questions or concerns raised by parents of Middle Ministries students.


RCIA-C/T:

• Create and implement a comprehensive RCIA program adapted for children and teenagers. (Ages: 7-17)

• Develop strong catechetical content and adapt to the needs of the specific students in the program.

• Oversee volunteer recruitment and training to help accompany the students, especially by assigning sponsors.

• In conjunction with the Liturgy Department, plan and execute the various rites and services proper to RCIA.

• Create a seamless discernment process for students inquiring about RCIA/C-T to meet their spiritual needs in a pastoral way.


Faith Formation Department:

• Work alongside the Faith Formation department to bring about deepening conversion for the entire family through unified, strategic ministry offerings.

• Participate in weekly department meetings and daily check-ins, making decisions and reporting on various accountabilities as necessary.

• Collaborate with the department to put on various events and programs for the entire family.

• Any other responsibilities as given by the Director of Faith Formation.


Supervision Given and/or Received:

• Overseen by the Director of Faith Formation


Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:

• Flexible work schedule with weekly late nights for programming.

• The work of this position takes place in a typical office environment and is subject to stress due to the evolving and quickly expanding parish needs, tight deadlines and heavy workloads.


Travel Requirements:

• Some travel required for ongoing Diocesan training and for staff development


Education and Experience Preferred:

• Bachelor’s degree in theology or related field

• Minimum three years of experience in ministry

• Experience with Planning Center a bonus


Knowledge and Skills Preferred:

• Ability to be detail-oriented with organization

• Ability to relate with parishioners easily and personably

• Ability to cast vision and lead teams of volunteers

• Ability to create and market original offerings

• Ability to speak in front of large crowds

• Ability to critically assess progress and implement improvements
