Job Description

The Senior Director, IT Strategy (ITS), is responsible for identifying, building and managing key client relationships, driving business growth, and delivering complex, end-to-end client advisory services and solutions to law firms. The Senior Director seeks to drive business growth and opportunities by identifying new business, managing client relationships and aligning HBR capabilities to client challenges. The Senior Director is accountable for client service delivery, quality, and success. The position also provides strategic level subject matter expertise to advisory projects, builds rapport and connections across peers in HBR, and demonstrates industry acumen through speaking and authoring opportunities.

Client Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of ITS engagements, such as assessments, scorecards, strategic planning, MS transition, and IT staff structure, by communicating with clients, providing scope and direction to ITS team, managing resources, budgeting and executing deliverables.
  • Lead execution of client deliverables for key clients as well as for projects of high complexity and importance.
  • Experience in project planning, budget oversight and staffing of project teams including time management and quality assurance for large complex clients/projects
  • Manage client relationships by fostering, growing, and maintaining relationships with key clients.
  • Lead and run Strategic IT Assessments for firms covering all aspects of law firm IT: technology footprint, service delivery, service management, practice engagement, spend, and staffing
  • Develop strategic recommendations and roadmaps based for firms based on current state analysis, firm strategic direction, and future state drivers
  • Serve as subject matter expert for specific areas e.g. security, cloud, knowledge management, artificial intelligence, collaboration, and/or other emerging areas.
  • Preferred: occasionally serve as interim Chief Information Officer for clients as needed.

Business Development

  • Develop new business by identifying opportunities to sell services, close new business, and advance new relationships.
  • Build trust with prospects by demonstrating that you are an expert in the industry, you understand the prospects' business, and that our success can only result from their success
  • Identify and develop service offerings based on marketplace demand and direction.
  • Manage solution line for clients by determining solution set, GoTo Market strategy, products, methodologies, deliverables, and required resources. Create, lead and implement new solutions to meet client needs.

Industry Acumen

  • Provide advisory insight to clients for leveraging legal technology and evolving legal technology service delivery.
  • Provide frequent and up-to-date thought leadership, internally and externally, by writing articles and White Papers, leading Webinars, and speaking at Industry events.
  • Deep understanding of law firm IT applications, operations, and service delivery; understanding of emerging technology and impacts on law firm IT; IT governance structures and alignment to strategy; etc.
  • Understand current industry trends and the impacts to firms and associated HBR perspectives; tailor and apply those perspectives based on client opportunities

Practice Maturity

  • Build and enhance offering materials based on current and emerging trends in the industry that communicate a compelling need for clients to use ITS service
  • Manage and mentor others by offering guidance, delegating workload, managing schedules, completing performance reviews, and other managerial tasks.
  • Support the Managing Director, ITS, with budgeting and organizational structure.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business, IT, or related field.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience as senior technology practitioner and leader working in or with law firms.
  • Proven ability to think analytically and strategically to assess problems and opportunities with law firms
  • Experienced and conversant with digital transformation and related technologies
  • Extensive knowledge of compute and consumption models employed by law firms including public and private cloud and hybrid architectures including the advantages and disadvantages posed by different models within the context of law firms
  • Extensive knowledge of broad range of technology applications employed by law firms required including enterprise applications (email, collaboration, document management, productivity), practice enhancement (workflow, artificial intelligence, knowledge management), IT operations (security, ITIL/ITSM)
  • Detailed understanding of cloud models, cloud platforms, and overall cloud operation considerations for law firms cinlduing Azure, MS365, and various SaaS legal tech applications (iManage, NetDocuments,
  • Strong sense of business acumen and technical knowledge.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Able to communicate with wide range of internal and external stakeholders, such as firm executives, COOs, CIOs, CISOs, and CINOs, as well as IT practitioners
  • Understanding of knowledge management and innovation within a law firm as well as the role of technology in innovaiton practices
  • Persuasive and powerful communicator, able to clearly convey complex ideas, build alignment and manage difficult conversations.
  • Excellent research skills.
  • Strong sense of professionalism.
  • Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Flexibility to adapt to new challenges as well as client and business needs.
  • Ability to lead and manage others including delegating workload, managing schedules, completing performance reviews, and other managerial tasks.
