The Kennedy Center Travel Trainer position teaches individuals with disabilities on how to use public transportation in their home communities. This critical position... provides in the field training on how navigate the public transit system to get to essential destinations like a job, school, medical appointments and many other community resources.

Travel Trainers create the pathway for individuals to increase their independence and rely less on other family members, friends or even costly on-demand transportation options. Travel Trainers work with individuals to see the benefits of using a public bus or train system, teaches how public transit etiquette, provides safe community navigation guidance, and builds confidence in the rider.Come JOIN OUR TEAM at The Kennedy Center and make an impact on others and your community.POSITION DESCRIPTIONTITLE: Travel Trainer GRADE: 3 - Non-ExemptDept. Location: Mobility Services 2440 Reservoir Ave, Trumbull CT 06611Worksite Location(s): Connecticut--StatewideJob Summary:A Travel Trainer provides assessment and systematic guidance on how to use various public transportation resources within local communities across the state.

The Travel Trainer provides community outreach to school systems, higher education systems, community resource organizations, and state agencies to promote the availability of travel training services for persons with disabilities. Travel Trainers are typically the main and only point of contact for services through The Kennedy Center. Travel Trainers provide the critical assessment of determining someone's capacity to safely and independently use the transit systems and devises tools to minimize barriers and create optimal access to these community resources.

Travel Trainers help bridge the gap for individuals from being dependent on others to accessing community for growth and prosperity. Travel Trainers are a vital element in the organization fulfilling its mission.Essential Functions:Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. Develop and implement individualized transportation plans and mobility instruction curriculum for trainees.

Provide outreach to local schools, community organizations, businesses, and community at large regarding services. Serve as main point of contact for referrals. Maintain consistent and open communication with referring entities and parties involved with trainee.

Serve as subject expert around transit routes and systems. Provide consultation regarding specific transit district's operation and impact on trainee. Provide consultation and outreach to other departments within the organization.

Ensure trainee/ rider safety. Provide direct, in the field training to trainees demonstrating safe community interactions. Complete all required documentation within time specifications.

Meet travel training quotas as established through contract with transit system. Carry out tasks as assigned by supervisor(s). Participate in all relevant training and development seminars, programs and meetings as directed by supervisor.

Seek personal learning opportunities and feedback to excel in your position and create a career pathway. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Be accountable for meeting all position expectations and owning responsibility for contract compliance.
