Position Summary:

Designs, plans and implements plant human resources programs and policies, including staffing, employee and labor relations, training and health programs. Ensures compliance with EEO, AAP, ADA, DOL, FMLA, and other federal and state guidelines. Sets standards for employee performance and methods to engage and encourage employees to meet their goals and objectives and those of the company. Administers corporate policies related to compensation and benefits among others.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Support the achievement of safety goals through active involvement by leadership and implementation of effective safety processes and controls, including employee involvement, and adherence to safety rules and OSHA regulations. Interface with worker’s compensation carrier and occupational health provider as required to control loss for facility and quality care for employees.
  2. Develop and implement strategies for recruiting salaried and hourly employees to support the Company’s objectives and remain in line with AAP goals. Conduct employment interviews utilizing effective selection criteria. Assure proper staffing is maintained for hourly positions through bidding, external recruiting, voluntary and involuntary layoffs and recall.
  3. Coach managers and supervisors on employee feedback, appraisal and performance improvement methods. Recommend and develop training for employees. Develop and maintain training documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 and IATF procedures and to assist in customer and regulatory audits.
  4. Work with plant management and supervision to promote labor relations and maintain union free status. Develop effective plant policies and rules and assure consistent application. Recommend corrective action for performance and attendance issues and conduct investigation and disposition of Conflict Resolution Process.
  5. Effectively communicate, coach and advise supervisors and managers regarding human resource policies and employee relations to build and maintain mutual trust, ownership and accountability. Develop and implement strategies for workforce participation, flexibility, accountability, productivity and quality.
  6. Plan, organize and control all activities of the department; ensure departmental goals support the achievement of company goals, objectives and systems. Assure accurate and timely processing of hourly payroll and maintain record retention per policy and regulation.
  7. Review hourly compensation on an annual basis; rewrite and develop job descriptions and conduct annual wage surveys to develop merit pool recommendations; monitor performance evaluation program and revise as necessary.
  8. Develop and implement effective programs, including WC/FMLA/STD/LTD/EAP, wellness and security. Support activities of the Plant Safety and Environmental Professional. Serve as active member of the Safety Team, SAP review board, and ERT team. Maintain certification as First Aid, CPR, AED and BBP. Develop and participate in annual ERT drill program.
  9. Facilitate all investigations and documentation supporting terminations. Develop and train employees and supervisors on Corrective Action Program. Represent Company at unemployment and other legal hearings.
  10. Develop, recommend and implement personnel policies and procedures; prepare and maintain handbook on policies and procedures; work with managers and supervisors to assure consistent application of Company policies and recommend changes when necessary.
  11. Actively participate as a member of the Lafayette Staff reporting to the Plant Manager. Attend weekly meetings, help to create and communicate goals and vision of the facility to support the Company vision, relay internal and external factors affecting workforce to identify labor issues and assess risk. Provide updated information regarding staffing, safety, and other Human Resource initiatives.
  12. Direct certain Plant administrative activities as required to support Plant operations.
  13. Represent facility in community initiatives and corporate human resource activities.
  14. Other work-related duties assigned.

Qualifications Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources/related field or equivalent experience.
  • 5 or more years in Human Resources Management.
  • Experience with all applicable laws, (EEOC, DOL, NLRB, FMLA, etc)
  • Labor relations experience including union avoidance.
  • Experience with safety management, including OSHA regulations and worker’s compensation.
  • Experience in developing and delivering training programs, managing payroll, administering benefits and compensation and recruiting at all levels.
  • Able to communicate and work effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter and highly motivated with strong organizational skills.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Prior human resource management experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • SHRM-SCP or SPHR preferred.
  • Experience with environmental practices and requirements.
  • Experience with ADP and E-Time software.
  • Experience with ISO and IATF practices and compliance.
