The Human Resources Manager will have a strong knowledge of the concepts, practices and procedures of activities related to the performance of human resources functions and will want to be a key leader in the organization. The individual in this role will maintain effective relationships with peers, clients, and others in a diverse environment; support team decisions and follow through with departmental responsibilities.This individual will interpret information, ideas and instructions and communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing including materials intended for distribution; ensure safe practices and environmental consciousness are exhibited in decisions. As a strategic partner of management, the Human Resources Manager will engage in collaborative planning, developing, and coordinating innovative human resource systems and processes that advance the business goals and objectives of the operating units and management activities. The Human Resource Manager will also provide analysis in support of institutional planning activities and external information requests; and provide consulting and business analyst support for Human Resource process improvement initiatives. This leader will be very engaged and influential in the creation of a strong organizational culture and climate. The Human Resources Manager will report to the Director of Talent and Culture.
Position Description
The Human Resources Manager assists the Director of Talent and Culture in the different areas of human resources such as compensation, benefits, recruitment, employee relations, conflict resolution, training and development. This role also supports employee wellness, counsels and advises management and employees on personnel matters, initiates and responds to inquiries, and provides information about organizational policies and procedures. Responsibilities also include investigating employee issues/concerns, preparing reports, presentations and communications for a variety of audiences, and ensuring procedures and programs are consistent with changes to federal and state laws and regulations. The Human Resource Manager is responsible to provide leadership and direction to promote a positive work environment founded on organizational core values (Self-Awareness, Curiosity, Celebration, Social Justice, and Mindfulness) and its objectives, principles, and best practices. The Human Resource Manager is responsible for supporting and collaborating on maintaining a healthy team environment and culture for all MLP employees. The Human Resources manager will employ an effective leadership style to navigate all personnel matters.
Job Summary
Collaborates in development, implementation, support, and review of all HR department initiatives, policies, procedures, and systems
Assist in the recruitment process, including generating job descriptions, posting advertisements, and the hiring process as needed
Supports organization staff by establishing a recruiting, testing, and interviewing program; counseling managers on candidate selection; conducting and analyzing exit interviews; and recommending changes.
Maintains the work structure by updating job requirements and job descriptions for all positions.
Prepares employees for assignments by establishing and conducting orientation and HR training.
Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employees by department managers
Provides, and coaches managers on providing, performance improvements and disciplinary actions, as needed, to employees
Schedules management conferences with employees.
Facilitate hearing and resolving employee grievances; and counseling employees and supervisors.
Ensure legal compliance by monitoring and implementing applicable human resource federal and state requirements, conducting investigations, maintaining records, and potentially representing the organization at hearings.
Be a key lead in organizational culture and sustainability-related activities to maintain purpose and mission driven culture
Support staff wellness, connecting and appreciation strategies, and support creating embedded working norms throughout the organization.
Cultivate professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional groups that advance MLP’s HR systems, processes and protocols.
Advances human resource staff job results by counseling and coaching employees; and planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
Update employee records with new hire information and/or changes in employment status
Administrative duties, including upkeep of employee records & files (attendance, EEO data, etc.)
Compliance with all policies and legal requirements
Perceptive nature, careful monitoring of working conditions to ensure legal compliance
Provide guidance to employees and management on human resources policies and procedures
Assist with the development of training, communications, presentations and/or information programs for employees/groups of employees
Review programs, policies, and/or practices to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies.
Collaborate in coordinating employee programs (benefits, compensation, training, employment, etc.)
Ability to eloquently articulate MLP’s mission and programs, and show passion for the mission of MLP
Other duties as assigned
Education – Bachelor’s degree in business administration, communications, or a related field
Required Experience – Minimum 3 years of successful work experience as a Human Resources Manager / Generalist, officer, administrator or other HR position.
Preferred Experience - Minimum 1-2 years working in educational institutions
