Job Summary

The principal duty of all employees is to assist in the mission of the Church in the Diocese of Fort Worth. This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties, or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. The Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization works with the Church in assisting families with children in catechesis (grades K-5), youth (grades 6th-12th), young adults (18 – 39) and adults, in becoming active, lifelong disciples in Christ through a catechetical, pastoral, and liturgical approach to Faith Formation. The Director provides primary leadership for articulating and implementing the diocesan vision of family formation and youth ministry within the Parish. The Director is responsible for establishing a collaborative relationship with parents of children and youth, assisting them in their role as primary teachers of the faith. All catechetical instruction must be per the magisterial teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.

A core area of ministerial responsibility for the Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization is the active development and engagement of a comprehensive catechetical formation and evangelization process. The Director of Faith Formation is responsible for the development, coordination, supervision, and execution of parish programs designed to engage and educate the youth and adults of the parish. They will act as an advocate and link youth and their families to the pastoral team, the parish family, and the surrounding community.

Because all Diocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work. As such, the Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization should be a faithful and practicing Catholic.

While not intended to be a complete list, the following are examples of duties associated with this position. Other related expectations, responsibilities, and tasks are required at times. The Director of Faith Formation and Evangelization should be adaptive and receptive to the varying requirements of this position.

Job Duties

  • Actively engages an active discipleship process that fosters an interior conversion to Christ and His Church.
  • Seeks to draw parishioners to responsible and active participation in the life, mission, and work of the Catholic faith community.
  • Promotes active participation in the sacramental life of the Church, especially the Mass, Confession, and Adoration.
  • Promotes and recruits teen and adult leaders forming them to be disciples (i.e. active witnesses of the Gospel.
  • Executes a comprehensive process of formation and training in the areas of evangelization and catechesis for all staff, both professional and volunteer.
  • Ensures those wishing to become Catholic have a clear path to full communion with the Catholic Church.
  • Oversees the Sacramental Preparation programs for Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation
  • Supervises the youth minister and ensures the core team(s) and catechists participate in planning and coordinating programs and services.
  • Develops and implements sound evangelization and catechetical curriculum in the area of evangelization, catechesis, doctrine, liturgy and sacraments, moral life and especially prayer.
  • Creates and oversees Adult Faith Formation.
  • Makes certain all events and programs reflect sound Catholic doctrine in keeping with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
  • Provides for and participates in ongoing education opportunities.
  • Effectively provides communication to the parish and community regarding activities and events.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Diocesan Department of Evangelization and Catechesis.
  • Assures that all legal, moral, and Diocesan responsibilities are provided within the context of all programming.
  • Is informed of and adheres to Church policies, and local, state, and federal laws about the abuse of minors.
  • Ensures that all volunteers receive appropriate Safe Environment training and adhere to all Safe Environment policies.
  • Establishes a collaborative relationship with other members of the pastoral team.
  • Attends and actively participates in parish staff meetings and events, Safe Environment Committee meetings, Diocesan gatherings, and related activities.
  • Keeps open lines of communication with other members of the parish staff.
  • Makes certain that parish property is respected and appropriately used.

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises the Administrative Assistant for Faith Formation and the Coordinator of Youth Ministry.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates capability to carry out administrative and supervisory duties in a timely fashion, utilizing good communication and relationship skills.
  • MA (preferred) in Theology/Religious Education/Catechesis & Evangelization OR a related educational field OR a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning OR a certificate of completion from a diocesan-level comprehensive lay formation program is desired.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and cordial work relationship with staff and volunteers.

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the Roman Catholic Church, Catholic Sacraments, Catholic Rites, Rituals, and Liturgies.
  • Knowledge of Catholic Family Ministry, Youth Ministry, Adult Faith Formation, Evangelization, and Catechesis

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated skill in public speaking, and communicating in writing
  • Teambuilding, supervision, collaboration, and formation skills
  • Skill in event management a plus

Required Abilities

  • Ability to multi-task and complete tasks on time and budget.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and utilize effective time management techniques.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to provide excellent Christo-centric customer service and work effectively with staff, clergy, religious, and laity.
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to travel moderately within the diocese to attend, ministry workshops, catechetical in-services, youth events, etc.

Required Computer Skills

  • Microsoft Office - intermediate
  • Canva or similar digital publishing - basic
  • Social Media - basic

Working Conditions

This position entails frequent evening and weekend work.
