Job Description

The Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers (League) was founded in 1972 as one of the country's first state Primary Care Associations (PCAs). Established under the same federal authorizing legislation as the health center program (Section 330 of the Public Health Service Act), PCAs are organized around a set of core functions and competencies that provide a framework for support and assistance to health centers and the communities they serve. The League is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization registered as a public charity with the Commonwealth's Secretary of State. It maintains a professional staff at its headquarters in Boston and its training center in Worcester.

Position Summary:

The Grant Writing Specialist plays a pivotal role in securing funding to support the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers mission of promoting community health centers and equitable healthcare access. This position involves developing and implementing a comprehensive grant writing strategy, researching and identifying potential funding sources, and creating compelling grant proposals. The Grant Writing' Specialist will work closely with various stakeholders to drive successful grant acquisition.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive grant writing and acquisition strategy that aligns with Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers mission and goals.
  • Conduct research to identify potential funding opportunities, including foundations, government agencies, corporate partners and individual donors, as well as funds available through Determination of Need (DoN) processes. Keep abreast of grant opportunities and trends in the healthcare and non-profit sectors.
  • Write and prepare high-quality grant proposals, applications, and letters of inquiry. Ensure all proposals are compelling, well-structured, and align with the requirements of each funding source.
  • Collaborate with program managers and subject matter experts to gather the necessary information and data for grant proposals. Work closely with the finance team to ensure accurate budget and financial information is included in proposals.
  • Manage the submission process, including adhering to deadlines, submission guidelines, and all required documentation.
  • Oversee grant reporting and compliance, ensuring that grant activities are in line with grant agreements and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain effective communication with grantors, providing updates on program progress and outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of grant applications, approvals, and denials. Track the status of each grant opportunity.
  • Attend events to engage and cultivate relationships with existing and potential donors.
  • Host occasional in-person and virtual donor briefings

Competencies/Skills:

  • Outstanding written communication skills with the ability to craft persuasive, clear, and well-organized grant proposals.
  • Strong research capabilities to identify potential funding sources and understand their priorities.
  • Excellent project management skills to manage multiple grant applications, deadlines, and reporting requirements simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with budget development and financial aspects of grant proposals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to gather essential information for proposals.
  • A meticulous approach to proposal preparation and adherence to grant requirements.
  • Dedication to upholding and embodying the organization's mission and core values.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of grant writing experience, preferably in the non-profit or healthcare sector.
