Environmental Health and Safety Manager

Position Type: Full time, Exempt, Salary

Reports to: VP of Human Resources

Supervisory Responsibility: Safety Department

Location: Jacksonville, FL

Job Summary

The Environmental Health and Safety Manager will create and enforce a culture of safety within our organization and implement programs, policies, and assessments to ensure Stellar Energy and its employees meet all legal and regulatory requirements and actively support occupational health and safety guidelines. The Environmental Health and Safety Manager is the driver of creating a safety conscious culture at Stellar Energy.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines.
  • Leads the development, review, and implementation of site safety programs.
  • Interfaces with regulatory and public sector agencies as appropriate.
  • Leads, supports, and guides facility safety committee.
  • Conducts regular safety reviews with site leadership and prioritizes issues.
  • Oversees the implementation and maintenance of environmental health and safety management systems.
  • Emphasizes accountability around safety policies and decisions.
  • Determines occupational safety and health training requirements and develops appropriate training for employees.
  • Audits safety plan progress and compliance progress across the company.
  • Maintains consistent involvement in specific safety or environmental concerns at all facilities.
  • Keeps safety personnel and plant personnel current on safety standards.
  • Responds to complaints, conducts investigations, and recommends solutions to minimize safety and health problems.
  • Participates in industry and professional interest groups to stay current on best practices.
  • Monitor operations to eliminate hazardous activities.
  • Maintain OSHA injury and illness recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
  • Prepares for ISO 9001 and other audits.

Work Environment

This position is based at our fabrication facility which is in an industrial environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, loud noise, and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions.

Physical Demands

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., however this is subject to change due to business needs.

Travel

10% Travel is expected for this role.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in safety management or related field
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and Outlook

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Certificate in Safety Management
