About this position

The vice president of human resources serves as a member of the executive leadership team and plays a crucial role in overseeing various aspects of human resources and talent management functions within the organization.

The ideal candidate has excellent leadership skills and the ability to bring a systematic and disciplined approach to the management, development, and retention of the organization’s ever-growing cadre of diverse employees.

The vice president is an engaging leader who inspires, motivates, and guides team members toward their individual and collective goals, while serving as a resource to the organization’s leadership on all personnel matters.


What you’ll be doing

  • Developing and implementing HR strategies aligned with the organization’s mission and goals;
  • Leading and managing the HR, Talent Management, and HR Support Services teams;
  • Overseeing employee relations matters, including conflict resolution and grievance procedures;
  • Participating as a member of the leadership team and serving as the key HR staff member for the board of directors and various committees;
  • Ensuring a positive and inclusive work environment that fosters employee well-being;
  • Staying informed about relevant employment laws and ensuring compliance;
  • Developing and updating HR policies and procedures in accordance with legal requirements;
  • Overseeing the design and administration of competitive compensation and benefits programs, analyzing and recommending changes to ensure the organization remains competitive in attracting and retaining talent;
  • Delivering strategic and operational decision-making recommendations to the CEO, Board of Directors, and members of the executive management team based on hiring data and other key performance indicators;
  • Advising on long-term business planning;
  • Identifying training needs and developing programs to enhance the skills of staff;
  • Facilitating professional development opportunities for employees.
  • Attending professional organization meetings, conferences, and other events and representing the organization in strategic local, state, and national program conversations as assigned;
  • Leading group-wide transformative initiatives and translating detailed information into clear, concise, and accessible messaging;
  • Helping support other senior executives and employees, including advising on promotions and the creation of new positions;
  • Assessing and implementing improved processes and new technologies and collaborating with management regarding the implementation of these improvements;
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

What you bring to the table

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, or related field (master’s degree preferred);
  • Knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations;
  • Ability to confidently represent Options for Learning with a mission-driven focus;
  • Organizational skills and vision to lead the HR and Talent Management departments in plan development, goal setting, and achieving measurable outcomes;
  • Proven experience in HR leadership roles, preferably in the nonprofit sector;
  • Decision-making skills and analytical thinking to arrive at logical conclusions;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with colleagues and external entities;
  • High-level organizational skills;
  • Ability to independently identify problems, needs, and opportunities for improvements and to develop solutions and implement plans/solutions;
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office applications and computerized data management systems;
  • Ability to communicate in written and oral English correctly and effectively;
  • Active membership in the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) (preferred).

Job specifications

  • Reports to the chief financial and administrative officer;
  • Full-time, 12-month work year;
  • Eight-hour workday;
  • Alternating Fridays off (every Friday off beginning July 2024);
  • Hybrid-work schedule;
  • Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
  • Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization’s contracts, or at organization discretion.

Salary

  • $160,000 - $180,000 per year
