Minimum Requirements

• High school graduate or GED with math and keyboard skills.
• Word processing and spreadsheet skills required.

Position Summary

The Registrar is responsible for coordinating business office activity, patient business services, cashiering, bankcard processing, and petty cash, and ensures that all applicable rules, regulations, and standards are followed. Provides backup to the Admissions Department as needed.

Position Responsibilities

• Greets all patients and visitors in a courteous manner while initiating the check-in process.
• Completes the patient registration and admission process.
• Obtains and verifies accurate patient identification and demographical data to confirm or update patient’s permanent medical record, while recognizing and maintaining the confidentiality of all patient information.
• Refers patients to Claim Aid if they need help in applying for Medicaid or other government paying payors.
• Opens cash drawers, collects patient payment, post payments to correct accounts and prints receipts.
• Balances cash drawer at the close of shift as assigned.
• Explains payment plans and financial assistance application process.
• Calculates appropriate self-pay discounts when applicable.
• Providing professional customer service during face-to-face, as well as telephone interactions with patients and visitors, physicians, nurses, and other hospital personnel.
• Maintain a neat and orderly registration area.
• All other duties as assigned.
