Job Description
 

General Summary  

Responsible for preparation of bakery items for distribution; baking products according to recipes and daily production schedule and assurance of accuracy and quality of finished products within a high-volume food production environment. Responsible for production, packaging and order fulfillment for PDXPOP!. Responsible for cleanliness and sanitation of bakery area in compliance with food safety standards and operating procedures. May be required to assist with production of other food items as necessary.

 Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

  • Responsible for production and preparation of all bakery items for all senior dining menus and home delivery supplemental items
  • Responsible for production, packaging and order fulfillment of PDXPOP! Meals on Wheels People’s gourmet popcorn brand 
    1. Develop new flavors 
    2. Ensure adequate levels of production and packaging to meet customer demand
    3. Responsible for order fulfillment
    4. Responsible for training and oversight of assisting staff to meet production demands
  • Responsible for other earned income accounts as assigned, which may include development of recipes and production/packaging processes and procedures 
  • Oversee staff and volunteers to ensure all products meet quality and portioning standards
  • Follow direction for preparation of products according to the daily production charts and recipes
  • Assist in loading products for distribution, ensuring the correct quantities are distributed
  • Complete clean-up of the equipment and fixtures of work area, including floors, walls, and equipment
  • Maintain high cleaning and sanitation standards in compliance with food safety standards and operating procedures
  • Maintain cooperative and effective relationships with staff and volunteers
  • May be required to cross-train into other departments
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Knowledge

  • Associate degree in Culinary Arts preferred
  • Understanding and knowledge of professional baking and cooking  techniques
  • Understanding and knowledge of safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures
  • Must have current Oregon Food Handler’s Certificate
  • Current ServSafe certification or ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire

 Skills, Abilities & Experience

  • Much be COVID 19 vaccinated. 
  • Minimum three years of experience in food service, bakery, quantity and quality cooking
  • Experience ovens, range top, mixer, horizontal mixer, vertical chopper machine, can opener, and rolling racks required
  • Proven ability to work with volume recipes and follow directions
  • Intermediate computer skills, including MS Outlook and Word
  • Skill, motivation and ability to effectively communicate and work with diverse staff to build a team oriented, positive and productive work environment
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills including the ability to set priorities and organize multiple projects.   Proven ability to multi-task, problem solve, make effective and timely decisions, and identify creative solutions
  • Must be able to read, understand and communicate basic cooking directions written in English
  • Must be able to demonstrate basic math skills

 Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.

 Working Conditions/Physical Demands

Fast paced kitchen environment, with significant people interaction. This position will spend 100% of the time standing with frequent environmental exposures to heat, cold and water. High frequency of multiple repetitive movements; must be able to transport up to 50 pounds on occasion 20-30 pounds regularly; frequent reaching, bending, stooping and grasping; dexterity in hand and fingers to operate cooking utensils, knives, stove, oven, kitchen equipment, keyboard and mouse.  Candidate must successfully pass the pre-employment screening and criminal background check
