What is your role? 

As a Technical Director for Eleventh Hour Games, you'll be responsible for providing high-level technical direction, helping to organize priorities with other leadership, learning and maintaining a full understanding of all technical aspects the product and platforms that support it, and is also willing to get their hands dirty with day-to-day development to help individual contributors through technical challenges.

This position will require a candidate with deep understanding of ARPGs, specifically adapting to Last Epoch. This role is ideal for someone who craves leadership and has strong communication skills, both written and verbal. The role requires excellent communication skills and autonomy as you will be working with a fully remote team.



Qualifications

  • 10 plus years in a similar role
    • 2+ years in a leadership position
  • Full stack game development experience – from gameplay, UI, networking, and backend services. Expert in integrating, debugging, and optimizing game networking/online, multiplayer, monetization/commerce and identity/accounts subsystems. .
  • Strong coding skills in C#
  • Expertise in several of the following areas: network, online services, engine, optimization, gameplay; 
  • Advanced knowledge in general games programming as well as in general games development tools, processes and infrastructure 
  • Advanced experience in core engine development, networking, gameplay, and tool development
  • Excellent initiative, self-motivation, organizational and problem solving skills, with the ability to both drive and follow direction
  • Deep experience with Unity Engine 
  • A bias toward action while keeping your team cool under pressure. The ability to lead from the front to resolve challenges that block the studio and impede the team.

Pluses

  • Track record of shipped games as Lead Developer or Lead Programmer
  • Familiar with development of low-level systems like streaming, generic serialization, and more
  • Collaborative and dependable with an eye for problem solving.

Responsibilities 

  • Grow and manage a team of cross-functional engineers to support EHG's game projects through development, launch, and beyond. Your team will span geographies as well as technical disciplines, including game frontend, networking/online and server engineering; DevOps; and QA.
  • Collaborate closely with other Tech teams contributing to successful integrations.
  • Proactively identify opportunities and risks to improve the work of the team, the quality of the project, and EHG technologies as a whole.
  • Define the technical vision of our projects, collaborate with a diverse cross-disciplinary team, to ensure that gameplay, core engine, tools, technical art, and platform goals are clearly defined and met.
  • Collaborate with the managers, leads and programmers of the project to determine the technical vision of the project and define the direction of the game with a focus on the player’s satisfaction.
  • Mentor our whole programming staff, including the developers working on gameplay, core engine, graphics, AI, UI, networking, platform, animation, technical art and audio.
  • Ensure and establish coding standards and maintain efficient coding practices
  • Evaluate third-party technology and tools. Author documentation, set and communicate best practices and technical constraints of the engine and tools.
  • Perform research to acquire the knowledge necessary to complete assigned tasks and maintain the technological evolution of current and future products
  • Interface with the executives and team leads to ensure that all technology interests and policies are properly represented and maintained throughout the course of development, and that future technology is on track and in development for future products
  • Expert in design, programming, debugging and optimization
  • Write and develop robust maintainable high and low level code to extend engine (Unity) functionality
  • Maintain and add to existing codebase, including low/mid-level systems to support pipelines and higher-level programmers
  • Architect and participate in implementing all the different game modules and systems
  • Architect and participate in the implementation and maintenance of potential non game specific systems used by content creators (extensions to engines, tools, build systems, pipeline improvements)
  • Manage, establish, and foster relationships with new and existing third party technical platform vendors
