Job Description

The Relationship Manager is responsible for soliciting, negotiating, underwriting and coordinating the closing of major and complex consumer, equipment, SBA, commercial building and business loans in compliance with the Bank's lending policies and procedures; develops business checking and deposit relationships with customers; and promotes business for the Bank by maintaining good customer relations and referring customers to appropriate staff for new services. The position of Relationship Manager is responsible for assisting in attaining established Bank, region and branch goals through active participation in sales management and officer call programs, and provides leadership, training and support to less experienced loan officers and other staff members.

Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as, all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

  • Works closely with the Market President and Chief Credit Officer for loan approval.
  • Consistently applies superior decision making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures, keeping within assigned approval limits and using these instances as learning tools for employee development.
  • To produce assigned loan volume as set annually by your supervisor
  • To ensure and maintain asset quality of loan portfolio
  • To collect the Banks standard fee income on portfolio loans and the standard fee on loans sold.
  • Assumes responsibility for special projects, gathers data and prepares reports for Senior Management, audits and other personnel.
  • Processes, solves and answers complex customer transactions, problems or inquiries.
  • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to process account activity, determine balances and resolve problems within given authority.
  • Answers telephones, answers questions and directs callers to proper Bank personnel.
  • Assumes responsibility for various department functions in the absence of staff members or in overload situations.

Secondary Functions

The position of Relationship Manager performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:

The position of Relationship Manager is not responsible for the supervision of any employee(s); however the incumbent is required to provide leadership, training and support to less experienced Relationship Managers and other staff members.

Job Type:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.

Travel:

No travel is expected for this position.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This position uses office equipment such as computers, phones, copy and fax machines, calculators, filing cabinets and printers.

Physical Demands:

This position will be responsible for writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 50 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.

Mental Demands:

The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.

Education and Experience:

These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited 4 year college or university in Business Administration, Finance or equivalent years of banking/financial institution experience.
  • 5+ years of Banking experience, including credit underwriting, lending business development and sales experience. Work related experience should consist of an in-depth background in commercial lending and commercial real estate lending,
  • Has a commercial portfolio of a minimum of $10M+ and the ability to increase $10M each year
  • Advanced knowledge of lending and operations products and services; related state and federal laws and regulations, and other Bank operational policies and procedures.
  • Advanced experience, knowledge and training in all operational and lending activities and terminology.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, business financial statement, professional journals, and technical procedures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation; mainframe computer system; word processing and spreadsheet software programs.
  • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
  • Intermediate math skills; ability to calculate interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages; balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to customers and employees.
  • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations.
  • Ability to work with no supervision while performing duties.
  • Current driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
