Retail Merchandise Buyer/Manager
Buy merchandise or commodities for resale to consumers at the retail level.
Analyze past buying trends, sales records, price, and quality of merchandise to determine value and yield.
Select, order, and authorize payment for merchandise according to contractual agreements.
May conduct meetings with sales personnel and introduce new products.

Knowledge
Sales and Marketing
Knowledge of principles and methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services. This includes marketing strategy and tactics, product demonstration, sales techniques, and sales control systems.
Customer and Personal Service
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Administration and Management
Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
Tasks
Position requires 40-60 hours per week; Adjustment of hours as needed by store requirements. Nights and weekends will be required.
Daily monitoring of employees; including but not limited to uniform/dress code check, task assignments and follow through.
Domestic and international travel as needed for the store
Network with other garden centers
Look for new trends & categories in garden center industry
Must be creative with the ability to create displays for product
Ability to learn and navigate Counterpoint system
Ability to create, adjust and adhere to budget for purchasing
Daily monitoring of floor and products with the ability to move slow moving inventory with proper sales.
Ability to work as a team and lead that team; including scheduling and floor coverage. Ie: As manager, if shift is not covered (call off/no show) responsible for covering shift.
Assist social media to drive sales
Assist social media with weekly email campaigns
Must be able to comprehend retail trends and adjust numbers accordingly
Buy merchandise or commodities for resale
Negotiate prices, discount terms, or transportation arrangements with suppliers.
Examine, select, order, or purchase merchandise consistent with quality, quantity, specification requirements, or other factors, such as environmental soundness.
Recommend mark-up rates, markdown rates, or merchandise selling prices.
Monitor and analyze sales records, trends, or economic conditions to anticipate consumer buying patterns and determine what the company will sell and how much inventory is needed.
Collaborate with vendors to obtain or develop desired products.
Inspect merchandise or products to determine quality, value, or yield.
Conduct sales meetings to introduce new merchandise.
Discuss business strategies, practices, or policies with managers.
