    Job description

    Forklift Operator/Material Handler

    Shift: Days 6:00PM-6:30AM; 223 Rotating Shift

    Location: Royal Canin (Fremont, NE)

    The Material Handler's role functions as a member of an area team that is directly responsible for the efficient production of quality products in the required quantities. This role will operate/change over specified machinery in the assigned area. Material Handlers must ensure efficiency, operational conformance, product quality and continuous improvement. Material Handlers must have the skills set to train and/or perform the tasks of other associates in the area as needed. This job requires strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills to support site objectives.

    Responsibilities

    • Always operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
    • Perform periodic and routine inventories of raw materials in storage
    • Provide and perform routine maintenance checks on equipment
    • Assist in other production, sanitation, maintenance, and quality activity in other areas as directed
    • Perform housekeeping and sanitation procedures
    • Provide functional communication with other staff members as necessary to optimize quality, efficiency, productivity and safety
    • Loading trucks, live loads and staged loads
    • Ability to operate Forklift – (Expert Level)
    • Direct ship responsibility including proper disposition of hold product, food safety hold product and released product
    • WMS, BOL responsibility / accountability
    • Support Warehouse Area Lead with all activities associated with shipping department
    • Standing on a concrete floor
    • Sitting, getting up and down off of a forklift often
    • Wearing proper personal protective equipment (hair net, bump cap, ear plugs, safety shoes, and uniform)
    • Bending, stooping, twist, turn, standing for extended time periods, reaching, climbing stairs, and lifting up to 55lbs
    • Must be able to adapt to temperature and environmental extremes such as hot to cold, dust dirt and chemicals
    • Vision correctable to 20/20

    Qualifications

    • Be 18 years of age or older
    • Have a High school diploma, GED or equivalent education
    • Must be willing and able to work and accept varying shifts and schedules
    • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in the English language
    • Forklift certified
    • Knowledge of inventory computer systems WMS
    • Food manufacturing experience and knowledge of food safety
    • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices
