What you'll do
You will craft, test, certify, and build high assurance encryption products aligned with NSA TEMPEST requirements within Viasat Government - Secure Network Systems (SNS). Use your TEMPEST design expertise for new HAIPE, EDE, Space, and Tactical high assurance encryptors, as well as execute production TEMPEST sampling program and address any test failures to root cause.
The day-to-day
  • Collaborate with analog and digital hardware design engineers and mechanical engineers to create TEMPEST compliant products
  • Recommend circuits, participate in design reviews, conduct tests on new TEMPEST solutions
  • Review Schematic/CAD designs
  • Develop TEMPEST Test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Participate in the initial Certification and Submittal phase of Viasat's new TEMPEST facility and oversee certification under the TEMPEST Manufacturing and Test Services Program
  • Perform testing in accordance with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92, CNSSAM TEMPEST 01-02
  • Collaborate with in-house and contract test technicians to conduct experimental (engineering) and formal (for score) TEMPEST tests
  • Execute Viasat's production sampling TEMPEST program
  • Collaborate with NSA to achieve successful TEMPEST test results and product certification
  • Support the EMI/EMC qualification of Viasat products

What you'll need
  • 5+ years hardware design for TEMPEST secure products
  • 5+ years of TEMPEST experience post CTP certification
  • Proven experience with NSTISSAM TEMPEST/1-92 and CNSSAM TEMPEST/01-02 specifications
  • Demonstrated experience with MIL-STD-461/464 and/or DO-160 EMI/EMC standards, a plus
  • Validated understanding with TEMPEST test equipment such as TEMPEST receivers, oscilloscopes, dynamic signal analyzers and signal generators
  • Foundational knowledge of analog and digital logic and timing considerations
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills, ability to work with a temporally and geographically diverse team
  • Familiarity with production related processes and common failure modes
  • Able to be a part of a multidisciplinary team to evaluate and troubleshoot production related issues
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Sciences or relevant technical field
  • Certification of a Level II CTP (Certified Tempest Professional)
  • US Government position. US Citizenship required
  • Active DoD Secret Clearance with ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Salary range
$180,500.00 - $285,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $224,500.00- $336,500.00/ annually
