The Urban Dove Summer Academy is an 8-week paid internship program that gives college sophomores and juniors the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in alternative education environments. Interns will be placed in one of two professional pathways:

  • Youth Development (YD) Track - Working with students utilizing our Sports Based Youth Development Model
  • Curriculum & Instruction (CI) Track - Supporting academic instruction alongside certified teachers in classroom environments

All interns will receive weekly professional development, mentorship, and direct exposure to the Urban Dove mission, model, and impact.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION:
Urban Dove Team Charter School is a distinctive network of sports-based high schools catering to over-aged, under-credited youth. We fuse a robust academic curriculum with sports-based youth development, ensuring our graduates receive a diploma, a stepping stone for higher education, and essential job skills.


CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Youth Development Track

  • Support daily sports, enrichment, and leadership sessions through direct engagement with students
  • Assist YD staff with arrival, transition, and dismissal support
  • Mentor students through team-building and behavior modeling in structured group settings
  • Help plan and facilitate youth engagement initiatives and schoolwide activities
  • Provide insight and support to students in alignment with the SBYD model

Curriculum & Instruction Track

  • Assist certified teachers with classroom instruction, group work, and academic interventions
  • Work one-on-one or in small groups with students who need academic support
  • Prepare, distribute, or help facilitate learning materials and engagement strategies
  • Observe and learn instructional practices tailored to nontraditional learners
  • Provide classroom support through transition management and engagement reinforcement

Requirements

  • Rising junior or senior in college, currently pursuing a degree in Education, Sports Based Youth Development, Sports Management, a Student Athlete, or in a related field
  • Passion for working with high school-aged youth, particularly those who have struggled in traditional academic settings
  • Interest in sports-based education and mentorship
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Ability to commit to the full 8-week program
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Ability to actively engage with students and move throughout the school as needed.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and assist with setup or materials as required. Accommodations available per ADA.
