Job description

Southern Energy Management (SEM) is seeking Interns and summer helpers for full time employment. This position is a limited engagement to last approximately 3 months anytime in March to September. Interns and Summer helpers assist in performing visual inspections, diagnostic testing, collecting field data and verification in residential new construction to meet various energy efficiency and green certifications (Energy Star, NGBS, LEED for Homes and more).

Daily Job Duties:

  • Assist with residential building inspections for code compliance and energy efficient construction features including framing, insulation, air barrier, and HVAC

  • Assist with diagnostic testing for whole house air leakage and duct leakage in new homes to calculate energy efficiency performance

  • Communicate directly with home builders and trades, to help them meet their energy efficiency and sustainability goals

  • Complete RFI Certification during Internship

Required Abilities and Experience:

  • Ability to work outdoors, in basements, enclosed crawl spaces and attics
  • Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds for 100 feet unassisted
  • Great attitude and ready to work as a team

Preferred Certifications and Experience:

  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Experience or certification in high performance residential construction (BPI, RESNET)
  • Valid driver’s license (minimum 5 years) and a clean driving record
