Essential Functions

  • Prepares analytical reports pertaining to worker’s compensation, general liability, recruiting/retention, and other areas of HR as requested.

  • Performs HR related duties at the professional level and may carry out responsibilities in some or all of the following functional areas: employee relations, benefit administration, training, leave of absence, unemployment, general liability, workers compensations, 401k, staffing & retention, and data analytics.

  • Shares responsibility to maintain employee hotline and HR emails. Receives information and initiates the investigation process. Responds and manages all employee claims or requests.

  • Manages employee leave of absences (LOA, FMLA, PDL, CFRA, ADA) to include explanation of leave rights/responsibilities, provide and gather necessary paperwork, and serve as a liaison between employee, management, and payroll.

  • Supports ongoing manager training and development program by ensuring Operations has appropriate resources for managers to be confident with providing front-line communication with employees in areas of employee relations, disability accommodation, and discrimination and harassment courses. Also supports department in providing training and resources to ensure managers are confident with using the HRIS interface.

  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with business partners such as health insurance carriers, benefit program vendors, brokers, and defense counsel.

  • Maintains all home office-level employee files (physical and electronic).

  • Responds to all subpoenas or employee requests for copies of employee files.

  • Ensures compliance with all State and federally mandated trainings.

  • Supports the benefit insurance renewal process by providing timely reports and participating in strategy meetings with external partners.

  • Assists HR team with special projects as needed.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

  • aPHR, PHR, SHRM-CP certification is a plus.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

  • Intermediate computer skills: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel is highly used), UKG, surveys, and Canva.

  • Ability to learn other computer programs such as HRIS related software.

  • Manage and execute multiple tasks under limited supervision.

  • Effectively work individually, in a team, short timelines, and under pressure.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Professional written and verbal communication with all levels of staff and vendors on a daily basis.

  • Understanding of State labor laws and extensive knowledge of Islands operations.
