Job Description
At Idaho National Laboratory, you'll serve as a cybersecurity and industrial control systems subject matter expert, translating complex threat analysis into policies, reports, and strategies that protect the nation's critical infrastructure. You'll work within the Control Systems Analysis Center, interface with DHS and government partners, deliver technical training, and lead agile security teams advancing Idaho National Laboratory's mission to keep the nation's essential systems secure.
Talent Bridge: Critical Infrastructure Security Analyst
Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho, Idaho National Laboratory
Schedule:
9-80s with every other Friday off
Program Duration: 12 months, with a potential 1-year extension.
Position Overview:
Apply in depth technical and industry knowledge and experience to perform analyses on critical infrastructure
dependencies, vulnerabilities, and consequences from an all-hazards perspective. Lead expert analysis and the creation of infrastructure reports, documents and products related to the United States and its Critical Infrastructure. Use open source, technical and collateral (classified) data sources, communications networks, physical processes, and related interdependencies. Provide onsite technical expertise in critical infrastructure security as well as coordinate interaction and information sharing with various stakeholders within the U.S. government, State government, Local government, private/public industries, academia, and research related to critical infrastructure security issues and events associated with all 16 critical infrastructure sectors. Perform evaluations of critical infrastructure security, vulnerabilities, consequence, and cascading impacts
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Gather information and complete analysis of cyber threats to the United States and its critical infrastructure and technology-controlled processes. Perform as a cybersecurity and industrial control system (ICS) subject matter expert.
  • Contribute to scientific and technical products such as patents, software, journal papers, reports, proceedings, and policies. May contribute to the development of intellectual property leading to patents, publications, and/or copyrights.
  • Maintain knowledge of ICS and critical infrastructure security-related events and developments.
  • Work on complex issues in cybersecurity, determine methods and procedures on assignments, and coordinate activities of other personnel.
  • Work with other DHS and INL staff in the operation, maintenance, and enhancement of the Control Systems Analysis Center (CSAC) and other designated locations, including ICS systems, computers, power, and communications networks.
  • Interface with the ICS and critical infrastructure protection community to meet program requirements. Interface with customers to meet project requirements, including, but not limited to, defining scope, schedule, and budget estimates, delivering the project milestones on time and on budget, future research ideas and proposals, and general customer satisfaction requirements.
  • Represent the organization as the prime contact on projects and work.
  • May represent the program as an instructor in on-site and off-site cybersecurity training activities.
  • Provide technical instruction and expertise in ICS cybersecurity threat detection, prevention, and management.
  • May coordinate local and remote training sessions, student registrations, and venues.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to assigned members of small agile teams within the department.
  • Create reports and provide briefings related to these issues.
  • Advance strategic goals to generate and sustain a unique critical infrastructure analysis and regional resilience capability for the division.

Education, Credentials, and Work Experience:
  • Eligibility
    • This position is a multi-level posting, open to candidates who are recent graduates at either the Bachelor's or Master's level:
  • Bachelor's Level
    • To qualify, you must have completed your Computer Science or directly related engineering Bachelor's degree within the last 12 months from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Master's Level
    • To qualify, you must have completed your Cybersecurity or directly related engineering Master's degree within the last 12 months from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in a technical field, degrees include Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Engineering, Control Systems, MBA, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience determined with the level which includes conducting domestic security analysis.
  • Must be a US citizen and able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-clearance with appropriate sigmas and SCI clearance with the ability and willingness to complete a polygraph and become a full-time member of the Field Intelligence Element.
  • May be a Testing Designated Position.

The ideal candidate will possess:
  • Advanced degrees such as a Master of Business Administration or related field.
  • Experience with applying NIST 800-53 to a variety of assessment methodologies to generate reports and deliver both the report and associated metrics to partners.
  • Industrial Control Systems/SCADA/Process Control system design and experimentation, control system protocols, process control software, and data communications networks.
  • Experience as an instructor in technical subjects and in developing cybersecurity courses and curriculum.
  • Experience in the analysis of critical infrastructure with a control system focus.
  • Experience working on DOE and/or DHS funded programs at a National Lab
  • Education in computer science with Cybersecurity and/or ICS focus

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires the operation of office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:
Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Critical Infrastructure Security Analyst to work on our Infrastructure Security team. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our UB4 facility withevery other Friday off.
  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($83,964 - $90,948) / Level 2 ($100,188 - $108,528). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • Multi-Level: This is a multi-level posting and you will be placed at the appropriate level dependent on depth and breadth of proven experience and skills.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
