Job description

IT Infrastructure Engineer

Seeking to hire an IT Infrastructure Engineer for a leading higher education IT services company, for an onsite role with a client in Hampton, VA. We are seeking a highly skilled Level 3 (L3) Infrastructure Engineer with an educational background and strong expertise in both Wintel and Network technologies. The ideal candidate will serve as the final escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents, lead root cause analysis (RCA), and provide technical leadership across Microsoft and network environments.

Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Act as the L3 escalation point for infrastructure incidents and service requests
  • Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 services including Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint
  • Manage Azure Entra ID (Azure AD), hybrid identity, SSO, MFA, and Conditional Access
  • Administer Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Windows Server environments
  • Manage and troubleshoot Hyper-V virtualization platforms
  • Perform server patching, upgrades, security hardening, and vulnerability remediation
  • Design, implement, and support LAN/WAN infrastructure
  • Manage switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless controller environments
  • Support firewall technologies such as Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco FTD
  • Perform RCA for recurring incidents and infrastructure outages
  • Create SOPs, architecture documentation, and operational procedures
  • Mentor L1/L2 engineers and provide technical leadership Coordinate with stakeholders, consultants, and technical teams for successful project delivery.
Required Skills:
  • Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365 administration
  • Expertise in Azure Entra ID (Azure AD), MFA, Conditional Access, and hybrid identity
  • Strong Active Directory administration and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience with Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
  • Strong Hyper-V administration and troubleshooting experience
  • Solid networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, and QoS
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise switches, routers, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless environments
  • Strong troubleshooting, incident management, and RCA capabilities.
Qualifications:
  • Experience in infrastructure support and operations
  • Strong experience handling L3 escalations and critical incidents
  • Experience in enterprise or MSP environments
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
