SUMMARY
Our client, an Employer of Choice headquartered in the Metro Detroit area, is seeking an experienced and technically strong IT Infrastructure leader. This individual will play a pivotal role in architecting, securing, and maintaining the organization s core enterprise infrastructure environment. The Manager, IT Infrastructure will combine hands-on technical expertise with team leadership responsibilities, partnering closely with executive IT leadership and ultimately assuming full ownership of infrastructure operations through structured transition and knowledge transfer.
This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership position requiring strong engagement during critical incidents and a commitment to operational excellence.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Networking & Security Oversight
Architect, implement, and maintain secure enterprise network environments, including Cisco-based routing and switching infrastructure.
Oversee VLAN configuration, routing protocols, redundancy strategies, and secure segmentation practices.
Administer and optimize firewall platforms, with preference for Palo Alto technologies.
Design and maintain VPN connectivity and secure remote access solutions.
Lead cybersecurity infrastructure initiatives, including firewall governance, access control strategies, and segmentation standards.
Drive incident response efforts, remediation activities, and risk reduction initiatives in collaboration with IT leadership.
Support internal and external security audits and contribute to overall risk management strategy.
Compute, Storage & High Availability Platforms
Design and support high-availability infrastructure solutions, including Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct (S2D).
Manage Windows Server Failover Clustering and SQL Server AlwaysOn Availability Groups environments.
Support and optimize virtualization platforms such as Hyper-V and/or VMware.
Ensure infrastructure platforms meet performance, uptime, and resiliency standards.
Lead disaster recovery planning, testing cycles, and recovery execution procedures.
Infrastructure Operations & Technical Execution
Serve as the highest escalation point for complex infrastructure issues.
Conduct advanced troubleshooting and perform root cause analysis across network, storage, compute, and security layers.
Direct infrastructure modernization projects, system upgrades, and migrations.
Maintain ownership of critical incidents until resolution or appropriate transition.
Leadership, Governance & Standards
Lead and mentor Level 2 and Level 3 infrastructure engineers.
Assign and prioritize work while reviewing architectural designs and technical documentation.
Establish operational standards for change management, escalation protocols, and documentation practices.
Ensure adherence to SLAs, compliance policies, and enterprise infrastructure best practices.
Vendor & Strategic Planning Support
Act as primary liaison with infrastructure and security vendors.
Provide technical insight into procurement decisions and technology investments.
Support budgeting and infrastructure forecasting in partnership with the Director of IT.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor s degree in Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
7 10 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT infrastructure environments.
2 4 years of experience in a senior engineering, technical lead, or supervisory capacity.
Demonstrated hands-on expertise in enterprise networking, firewall and security platforms, Microsoft Storage Spaces Direct (S2D), Windows Failover Clustering, and SQL Server High Availability.
Proven strength in troubleshooting, incident management, documentation, and cross-functional communication.
