Job description

Infrastructure Automation Engineer

Reports to: IT Infrastructure Engineering Senior Manager

FLSA Status: Full time

The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Infrastructure Automation Engineer to design, implement, and maintain automation solutions that increase the efficiency, reliability, and consistency of our IT infrastructure operations. This role partners closely with IT Infrastructure and Operations teams to standardize processes, reduce manual work, and enable scalable growth through infrastructure-as-code and workflow automation. They possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written, and can articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities
  • Automate provisioning, configuration, and lifecycle management of servers, networks, storage, and other infrastructure components.
  • Apply a working knowledge of enterprise networking to design and maintain automation solutions, work closely with Network Engineering & Operations teams, and diagnose issues in automation workflows that interface with network infrastructure and services.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure and configuration changes, integrating with existing development and IT processes.
  • Identify manual, error prone IT infrastructure and operations processes and design automation to improve consistency, speed, and quality.
  • Develop self-service workflows and catalog items (e.g., in ITSM or portal tools) so IT Infrastructure and Operations teams can safely trigger standardized automations.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting for automated workflows and infrastructure, including self-healing and automated remediation where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, network, security, and application teams to ensure automated solutions align with standards, security requirements, and architectural patterns.
  • Document automation designs, runbooks, and operating procedures so they can be adopted and supported by the wider IT team.
  • Support troubleshooting of automation failures and infrastructure issues, including root cause analysis and continuous improvement of scripts and workflows.
  • Stay current with automation tools, scripting languages, and best practices in infrastructure automation, and IT operations, and apply them to the environment.
  • Deliver internal training or knowledge sharing sessions on infrastructure tools and processes.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging infrastructure trends and recommend adoption where beneficial.
  • Participate in governance forums or CABs as needed to represent infrastructure interests and risks.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for infrastructure topics to IT leadership and business stakeholders, advising on feasibility and risk.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all automation projects, including project plans, system documentation, and transition procedures.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of experience automating operations in hybrid environments (on-prem plus cloud such as Azure or other major providers).
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Strong scripting skills in PowerShell/Microsoft Graph, Python, Bash, or similar.
  • Power Automate experience required.
  • Terraform experience preferred.
  • Experience designing, developing, and maintaining infrastructure-as-code (IaC) for on-prem and cloud environments using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, or similar.
  • Reliable, organized, and able to execute work according to standards and runbooks.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work closely with Infrastructure Engineers, project managers, and on-site stakeholders.
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to adapt to site conditions while still following standards.
  • Ownership mindset and commitment to high-quality, safe, and professional installations.
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and process improvement skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across technical teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Core Competencies
  • Automation mindset: habitually looks for repeatable patterns and opportunities to replace manual work with reliable automation.
  • Operational discipline: designs automations with safety, security, logging, and rollback in mind, aligned with change management processes.
  • Collaboration: works as a partner to IT Infrastructure and Operations teams, providing reusable tools and frameworks rather than one-off scripts.
  • Documentation & knowledge sharing: produces clear documentation and trains others to adopt and support automation solutions.

Employment practices will not be influenced or affected by an applicant’s or employee’s race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy), national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran status or any other legally protected status. Reasonable accommodations will be made for qualified individuals with disabilities unless doing so would result in an undue hardship.
