Germanna Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. As a comprehensive community college, Germanna provides quality, accessible, and affordable educational opportunities for the residents of the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Caroline, Culpeper, King George, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania and Stafford.
Germanna Community College is currently seeking a Professor of Nursing. Full-time nursing faculty at Germanna Community College support the college mission, vision, and values, and are an important part of a team committed to meeting the educational needs of our community and culture designed to meet the community's changing educational needs. Our faculty are dedicated to student success by instructing, guiding and inspiring a student body to think critically and independently, through teaching, advising, and encouraging the student population to think critically and independently with the goal of fostering self-discovery and problem-solving. Faculty members also serve as instrumental actors in supporting a crucial role in advancing the college in pursuit and achievement of our college-wide Strategic and Truth and Reconciliation Plans.
This is a 10-month teaching contract- from August to May with paid leave for major holidays; and a salary distributed over 12 months.
The salary range for this position is broad because compensation is determined by both rank and relevant experience. Rank will be assigned based on the criteria outlined in VCCS-29 Normal Minimum Criteria for Each Faculty Rank, ensuring alignment with established qualifications. Salary will then be commensurate with the assigned rank and the candidate's related experience, allowing for appropriate placement within the range
General Description of Responsibilities:
  • Develop, implement, program; and evaluate the philosophy and objectives of the nursing education;
  • Design, implement, teach, evaluate, and revise the curriculum. Faculty shall provide evidence of education and experience necessary to indicate that they are competent to teach a given course;
  • Facilitate clinical experiences via VABON guidelines in various healthcare settings;
  • Develop and evaluate student admission, progression, retention, and graduation policies within the framework of the controlling institution;
  • Participate in academic advisement and counseling of students in accordance with require of the Financial Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 USC § 1232g);
  • Provide opportunities for and evidence of student and graduate evaluation of curriculum and teaching and program effectiveness; and committee meetings using a systematic plan of evaluation;
  • Document actions taken in faculty and committee meetings for total program review;
  • Enroll and graduate students;
  • Maintain continuous education units in both nursing practice and nursing education.

Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Unencumbered Registered Nursing License in Virginia
  • 2 years clinical nursing experience
  • Master's degree in Nursing (RN), Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (LPN & CNA)
  • Demonstrates strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates ability to facilitate student success in higher education.
  • Willingness to assume relevant technological skills required for effective teaching.
  • Willingness to assume duties to support the strategic goals of Germanna Community College.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn AI tools

Additional Considerations
  • Doctorate in Nursing, Education (RN), Master's Degree (LPN & CNA)
  • Recent medical-surgical, psychiatric mental health, obstetrics, pediatrics and/or community health clinical experience (including facilitating clinical in these areas)
  • Demonstrates understanding of adult learning theory, concepts and teaching methodologies
  • Demonstrates experience with curriculum design and development
  • Demonstrates understanding of principles, procedures and practices of data collection and analysis
  • Community college teaching experience.
  • Demonstrates computer skills
  • Experience with teaching with a Concept-Based Curriculum
  • Experience with external regulatory agencies and accreditation processes
