The Culinary Instructor will leverage industry experience and educational knowledge to deliver education services to Club teens. The Culinary Instructor will be responsible for leading culinary arts instruction, teaching job readiness skills, coordinating guest chefs and field trips, and supervising student-led meal preparation and dining services for various events held throughout the year. In addition, the Culinary Instructor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all aspects of the USDA Child Care Food Program (CCFP), including training, purchasing, and auditing.
Essential Duties:
- Prepare and execute daily lesson plans that engage members in hands-on culinary learning experiences, in a manner consistent with the philosophy, policies, and guidelines of BGCSDC.
- Provide effective classroom management and a positive learning environment for students.
- Recognize individual differences in the classroom and adapt instructional techniques accordingly.
- Coordinate visits from guest chefs, plan culinary-related field trips, and organize student-led meal preparation and dining services that expose members to the realities of the food service industry and help them develop job-ready skills.
- Employ recruitment strategies for the promotion of culinary courses, including identifying target audiences and the most effective methods of reaching them.
- Develop weekly menus in accordance with CCFP guidelines and budgetary limitations for each CCFP-approved site.
- Provide education and training to Club staff on CCFP requirements for food storage, snack/meal preparation, food service, and grant reporting.
- Conduct quarterly CCFP internal audits to ensure grant compliance.
- Place food orders and manage inventory for culinary class ingredients/supplies and CCFP snack/meal service.
- Oversee Snack Attendants at the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club.
- Enforce sanitation principles, ensure organization of workspaces, and maintain equipment and inventory in accordance with Florida Department of Health and BGCSDC standards.
- Assist with Special Events and other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations and sanitation standards.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Prior experience in teaching or instructing culinary classes, especially for youth.
- Ability to design engaging and age-appropriate lesson plans that cover a wide range of culinary skills and knowledge.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Position Requirements:
- Associate’s degree in culinary arts or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience.
- Lift push/pull at least 20lbs.
- Valid FL Driver’s License and be insured under the BGCSDC’s policy.
- Occasional nights and weekends are required.
- Pass pre-employment background screening and drug test.
