Job description

Position Highlights:

The transportation assistant will provide quality customer service and transport patients throughout the Cancer Center in a safe, timely, and efficient manner.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Will have experience in patient transport or other patient care role.
  • Has working knowledge of lifting techniques with the physical ability necessary for frequent lifting and pushing of light to heavy objects and periods of long standing and walking.

Responsibilities:

  • Transports patients in a safe manner and seek assistance when needed or required utilizing appropriate body mechanics at all times.
  • Transports deceased patients to the morgue.
  • Transports specimens from clinics to the lab department
  • Informs nurse when taking patient off unit/returning patient to the unit. Informs nursing staff of all pertinent information and observed changes in patient's condition during or after transport.
  • Responds to code blues and RRTs in the outpatient/inpatient areas and provides patient transport as needed.
  • Assists in the discharge of the patients from the inpatient/outpatient units by escorting patients via wheelchair to the exit area and assisting the patient into the vehicle as needed.
  • Manages inventory of equipment throughout the hospital; assuring equipment is stored in designated areas during the shift.
  • Assists with the maintenance of equipment and deliver equipment needing repair to the appropriate department as requested.
  • Follows infection control policies related but not limited to standard and isolation precautions.
  • Thoroughly cleans wheelchairs and stretchers between patients with a disinfectant spray and setup linen.
  • Communicates in a professional manner to medical staff, patients, families and coworkers.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current BLS required.
