Job description

Are you a school transportation professional ready to step into a high-impact leadership role? The Educational Service Center (ESC) of Medina County is looking for a driven, collaborative, and people-first Transportation Director to lead our student transportation program and serve as a vital resource for our region.

You’ll join a supportive, forward-thinking team with the opportunity to take a well-run department to the next level—serving students, families, and school districts across Medina County and beyond.

About the Role

This position balances hands-on operational leadership with high-level county collaboration. You will oversee the quoting and routing of school vans, driver supervision, fleet maintenance coordination, and strict safety compliance (OSHA and Ohio Administrative Code).

Crucially, you will also serve as a central leadership hub for the region, coordinating vital support, networks, and resources for School Transportation Directors throughout Medina County.

What You’ll Do

  • Empower County Leaders – Serve as a key liaison and resource hub, coordinating support, professional development, and shared resources for School Transportation Directors across Medina County.
  • Drive Routing & Scheduling Success – Plan, optimize, and manage annual van routes and special trips to keep daily operations running seamlessly.
  • Champion Driver Development – Recruit, train, evaluate, and inspire a dedicated team of drivers; lead engaging safety meetings and oversee CPR/First Aid compliance.
  • Optimize Fleet Performance – Partner closely with mechanics to manage vehicle maintenance schedules, keep compliance records spotless, and ensure the fleet is always road-ready.
  • Master Compliance & Reporting – Own all state and federal reporting, accident/incident documentation, billing, and ridership rosters with precision.
  • Cultivate Community Relationships – Act as the trusted transportation liaison for school districts, families, special education departments, and community partners.
  • Anchor Department Administration – Assist with strategic budget preparation, financial monitoring, and county-wide billing processes.

What You Bring

  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive experience in school transportation (leadership or supervisory experience preferred).
  • Expertise: Deep knowledge of Ohio school van traffic laws, safety standards, and modern routing software.
  • Credentials: Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record and a clear criminal background check.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Tech-Savvy: Strong computer proficiency and the ability to manage multiple logistical priorities simultaneously.
  • People-First Mindset: Exceptional communication skills and a passion for working collaboratively with drivers, parents, school administrators, and community peers.
  • Capability: Ability to perform all physical duties required by the position.

Why Join the ESC of Medina County?

  • A Launchpad for Growth: Step into a department with a rock-solid foundation and the autonomy to innovate and expand its reach.
  • True Collaboration: Work alongside a dedicated team of educational professionals who are genuinely invested in your success.
  • Countywide Impact: Broaden your professional footprint by shaping transportation success not just for one district, but across the entire county.
  • Great Location: Based in scenic Seville, Ohio, offering a great community environment.
  • Meaningful Work: Enjoy a career where your leadership directly ensures students arrive safely to receive the education they deserve every single day.

Salary

Salary Range: $50,000 to $60,000
