Senior Services of America is seeking a VP/Controller ~ come join our team!
The Controller is responsible for leading the financial operations of a senior living management company in the Pacific Northwest that has served communities for over 26 years. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and regulatory compliance, while supporting the company's mission of putting residents and team members first.
The Controller oversees all accounting functions, including general ledger, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting. They partner with leadership to guide budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial decisions that support high-quality resident care and operational excellence.
This position plays a key role in maintaining financial integrity across multiple communities, ensuring resources are managed responsibly to enhance both resident experience and team success.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
โ€ข Direct the work of accounting team members; manage day to day processing of all accounting aspects, review staff functions and workpapers.
โ€ข Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports to ensure integrity and GAAP compliance.
โ€ข Ensure timely preparation and review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations and associated analyses.
โ€ข Prepare management reports which analyze, summarize and forecast company business activity and financial position in areas of income, expenses, and earnings based on past, present, and expected operations.
โ€ข Research technical and evolving accounting issues and implement appropriate accounting treatment.
โ€ข Responsible for leading the annual budget process in a collaborative manner with key stakeholders resulting in the timely preparation of all budgets in alignment with the objectives of ownership groups.
โ€ข Oversee all audits related to financial information including the annual 401K, Workers Compensation and any other ad hoc audits by local taxing authorities.
โ€ข Prepare and submit compliance reporting required by regulatory and tax agencies.
โ€ข Maintain relations with banks and other financial institutions.
โ€ข Research and recommend technological tools that streamline and automate accounting systems, processes and procedures in the context of supporting operations.
โ€ข Develop training programs to support automation of processes; train accounting staff, oversee and/or train community Executive Directors and Business Office Directors, as needed
โ€ข Support the annual renewal of all insurance policies; property and liability, medical, D&O, E&O and Workers Compensation
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position directly supervises the Accounting team members. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field with 5+ years of experience in the Controller role. Public accounting experience preferred.
Certificates and Licenses: Currently licensed Certified Public Accountant required
Communication Skills: Receive and carry out verbal or written instruction. Communicate effectively in person, over the phone, or via email with customers and co-workers. Write and proofread routine correspondence and reports with appropriate grammar and spelling. Make group presentations to share information or explain policies and procedures.
Organization/Self-Management Skills: Perform a variety of duties, moving between tasks of differing nature, with occasional distractions and interruptions. Prioritize competing requirements to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes to workload and assignments. Work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal direction.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and common accounting software programs.

Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time.
