JR. SOUS CHEF - TEMPORARY
SpaceX is looking for passionate, experienced individuals to join our culinary team! The Jr. Sous Chef plays an important supporting role in the culinary department by assisting with kitchen inventory, food preparation, and setup. This position helps fuel the workforce while contributing to higher-end food experiences for the company's employees and guests. It requires a versatile set of restaurant industry skills, an imagination without bounds, and a lot of "can-do" attitude.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist with cost controls and help monitor expenditures
  • Support the creation of pricing schedules for meals
  • Help source high-quality ingredients with a focus on local, sustainable, and organic items
  • Assist in planning and executing menus with an emphasis on seasonal items and creative menu choices
  • Support purchasing and inventory management
  • Enforce food quality standards
  • Participate in staff meetings focused on food safety, quality, and new ideas
  • Ensure the safety of the physical kitchen and café space
  • Create a pleasant and fun environment for SpaceX employees to meet and share a meal
  • Support the delivery of in-house catering and assist with company and special events

POSITION DETAILS:
This is a temporary position with SpaceX, for the length of time as stated, and is subject to change with minimal notice as business needs dictate.
  • LENGTH OF POSITION: 3 months (permanent hire conversion based on performance and business need)
  • LOCATION: Cape Canaveral, FL

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 2 years of culinary leadership experience

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Degree or certificate in culinary arts
  • High-volume production or catering experience
  • Ability to assist in creating innovative menus
  • Strong ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Creative mindset with a desire to contribute to the culinary experience and culture at SpaceX

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. unassisted
  • Lifting, standing, climbing, bending, grasping, sitting, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position
  • Ability to work overtime and weekends as needed
