Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
Tarkett, a global leader in innovative flooring and sports surfaces is seeking a hands-on EHS Specialist for our plant in Middlefield, OH. The EHS Specialist will support the administration of Workers Compensation, and help develop, maintain and improve environmental health and safety programs within the Middlefield site. The environmental health and safety program should strive to meet or exceed all regulatory requirements and provide for a safe work environment that is free of hazards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists with all aspects of the Environmental Health and Safety program
• Assist in the administration of workers compensation claim management and return to work programs
• Assist in ensuring compliance to all Safe Work Practices (SWP), regulatory standards (EPA, OEPA, OSHA, NFPA, etc.) and plant policies and procedures
• Assist with the ISO 14001 / 45001 EHS requirements and audit process for continued certification
• Assists outside EHS consulting support firms to ensure compliance
• Design, improve and deliver EHS training presentations and training for both small and large audiences, hourly and salaried
• Deliver EHS orientation to new and temporary associates
• Assist in ensuring proper training and compliance to plant EHS policies and procedures involving contractor / vendor personnel
• Conduct proactive safety surveys and inspections in order to identify potential risks
• Perform, document, and trend behavioral-safety observations
• Analyze data and perform trending analysis in order to identify and implement corrective actions as well as develop strategic risk mitigation strategies
• Assists in providing technical assistance to associates in evaluating new / altered production equipment for potential hazards
• Assist in maintaining assorted databases and software programs in support of the EHS Department and Plant EHS initiatives
• Aid in the completion of the Plant's monthly and annual reports
• Assist in providing oversight to Plant's hazardous and non-hazardous waste storage, handling and transport program
• Help conduct ergonomic assessments of equipment, workstations, etc. as needed
• Help research safety equipment for its application and purchase
• Assist in personal protective equipment (PPE) selection and trials as well as to ensure its proper use, maintenance and storage
• Serve as an EHS Champion in furthering "Safety First" culture
• Engage with shop floor supervisors and employees through time on the floor; expected to be at least 50% of time
REQUIREMENTS (to include educational requirements):
• Bachelor's degree in Safety, Industrial Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene or related discipline with a minimum of three years of manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of experience
• Minimum 1 year of experience with workers compensation law, and light duty/return to work programs
• Strong working knowledge of all OSHA and EPA (OEPA) regulations, and experience assisting with visits and audits
• Knowledge of industrial hygiene test methods and monitoring programs to also include hazard mitigation techniques
• Knowledge of SPCC and SWPP Programs and Permits
• Knowledge of Environmental Sampling and Record Keeping in regards to SPCC and BMP
• Knowledge of Tier II and FORM R reporting, Air permitting, and hazardous waste management/
• Understanding of Industrial wastewater discharge permitting processes
• Willingness to collaborate and dynamically engage with fellow Ohio Campus EHS team
• Excellent verbal and written skills to include technical writing
• Strong interpersonal and presentations skills are essential
• Advanced computer skills are essential - Microsoft Office 365 environment
• To be able to work irregular hours including evening and weekends to accommodate the needs of a 24/7 manufacturing operation
