Is a technical recruiter an entry level job?

A technical recruiter can be an entry-level position, especially for those with strong communication skills and a basic understanding of technology. Many companies offer training and onboarding for new recruiters, but some roles may prefer candidates with prior experience or related certifications. Advancement often requires developing industry knowledge and recruiting skills over time.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a technical recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Technical Recruiter, you need strong knowledge of recruiting processes, an understanding of technical job requirements, and familiarity with talent acquisition best practices, typically supported by a bachelor's degree in human resources or related fields. Proficiency with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing tools like LinkedIn Recruiter, and knowledge of technical assessment platforms are commonly required. Outstanding interpersonal skills, effective communication, and the ability to build relationships with candidates and hiring managers help set top performers apart. These skills and tools are crucial for efficiently identifying, attracting, and securing top technical talent in a competitive job market.

What is a technical recruiter?

Technical Recruiters are professionals who specialize in finding, screening, and hiring candidates for technical positions, such as software engineers, IT specialists, data scientists, and other roles in the technology sector. They work closely with hiring managers to understand job requirements and use various sourcing methods, like LinkedIn, job boards, and networking events, to identify qualified candidates. Technical Recruiters often conduct initial interviews, coordinate the hiring process, and help ensure a good match between the candidate's skills and the company's needs.

What does a technical recruiter do?

As a technical recruiter, your primary responsibilities are to screen, source, interview, and recommend qualified candidates to hiring managers to fill jobs in IT, engineering infrastructure, and software development. Your duties include understanding the job requirements, identifying available applicants, and communicating through phone calls, video conferences, or in person to verify skills and follow up with candidates on job opportunities. In this role, you build relationships with candidates to create a level of understanding and trust. You ask the right questions to filter through applicants and present a good match for both your client and the potential employee. Occasionally, you may attend networking and recruiting events as needed.

How does a technical recruiter typically collaborate with hiring managers and engineering teams during the recruitment process?

Technical Recruiters work closely with hiring managers and engineering teams to understand the technical requirements and desired soft skills for each role. They often participate in intake meetings to define the ideal candidate profile, clarify must-have and nice-to-have skills, and establish timelines for hiring. Throughout the process, Technical Recruiters provide updates, gather feedback on candidates, and help refine the search criteria as needed. This collaborative approach ensures alignment on expectations and helps streamline the hiring process, ultimately leading to better hiring outcomes.

Technical Recruiter

Monaco

San Francisco, CA โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 20 days ago

Job description

Monaco is building an AI-native revenue platform that replaces the fragmented GTM stack - CRM, sequencing, call recording, enrichment, pipeline management with one unified system, consolidating 6-10 disconnected tools into a single platform built for the AI era.
We launched publicly in Feb 2026, are already 65 people, and have strong early product-market fit generating millions in ARR within months of launch. You'll have the chance to both scale our core systems and build new features from 0 to 1.
We've raised $85M in our Series B from Founders Fund, Benchmark, and Human Capital, and our founders previously led Brex, Apollo, and Clari.
Come join us if you want to be part of a high autonomy, high pace team reinventing one of the biggest categories in enterprise software.
The Role
We're looking for a Technical Recruiter to partner with our founding technical recruiter and help scale our engineering and technical teams. You'll own full-cycle recruiting for engineering roles while contributing to process building and delivering a high-quality candidate experience. This is a high-ownership role with real impact on the quality of our technical hiring.
What You'll Do
  • Drive full-cycle recruiting for engineering and technical roles (software engineers, data, infrastructure, product, etc.).
  • Partner closely with the founding technical recruiter on sourcing strategy, process, and execution.
  • Source and engage passive technical talent through multiple channels.
  • Manage interview coordination and deliver an excellent candidate and hiring manager experience.
  • Help build and document recruiting processes, playbooks, and workflows.
  • Track key metrics and provide insights to continuously improve our technical hiring.
What You'll Bring
  • 2-6 years of technical recruiting experience, ideally in startups or high-growth tech companies.
  • Strong full-cycle recruiting skills with hands-on experience hiring engineers.
  • Excellent sourcing abilities and comfort engaging passive technical talent.
  • High attention to detail and a strong focus on candidate experience.
  • Comfortable partnering directly with technical hiring managers.
  • Eager to help build and improve processes rather than just execute existing ones.
  • High agency and builder mindset.
Location
San Francisco. We're an in-person team - 5 days in the office. At this stage, proximity genuinely accelerates product quality and team cohesion.
