Description

The Technical Consultant serves as the primary technical liaison between Sales, Solutions Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Provisioning, and Service Delivery following contract execution. This role is responsible for ensuring that every customer solution transitions seamlessly from sales to implementation by validating the technical integrity of each order before engineering and delivery activities begin.


The Technical Consultant performs a comprehensive technical quality review of all Closed Won opportunities to verify that the solution sold complies with FiberLight product offerings, engineering standards, network capabilities, and operational requirements. This individual proactively identifies and resolves design discrepancies, incomplete technical information, engineering conflicts, bill of material inaccuracies, and implementation risks before they impact project schedules, customer expectations, or installation commitments.


Success in this role directly improves installation predictability, reduces rework, minimizes customer escalations, and helps eliminate end-of-month installation fallout caused by preventable technical issues.


Key Responsibilities

  • Sales to Operations Technical Validation
  • Serve as the technical bridge between Sales and Service Delivery following contract execution.
  • Perform comprehensive technical validation of all assigned Closed Won opportunities prior to engineering release.
  • Ensure customer solutions align with approved FiberLight products, service offerings, and engineering standards.
  • Verify that all required technical documentation has been received and is complete before work begins.
  • Validate customer requirements, assumptions, network architecture, access methods, demarcation locations, diversity requirements, and technical specifications.

Engineering Design Validation

  • Review engineering circuit designs to ensure they accurately reflect the solution sold to the customer.
  • Validate logical and physical network designs for accuracy and constructability.
  • Ensure engineering designs comply with established network architecture standards.
  • Identify discrepancies between customer requirements, sales documentation, and engineering deliverables.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering to resolve technical conflicts before implementation activities begin.

Bill of Materials & Material Validation

  • Review Bills of Material (BOM) to ensure all required equipment, optics, cabling, hardware, and supporting materials accurately support the engineered solution.
  • Validate equipment compatibility across network platforms.
  • Ensure quantities, configurations, and hardware selections support installation requirements.
  • Identify missing, unnecessary, or incorrect materials prior to procurement.

Fiber & Splicing Design Review

  • Validate fiber routing and splice designs for technical accuracy.
  • Review splice plans to ensure proper fiber assignments and continuity.
  • Confirm diversity requirements and customer path requirements have been met.
  • Coordinate with OSP Engineering and Construction teams to resolve routing or splicing concerns.

Risk Identification & Quality Assurance

  • Proactively identify technical risks that could delay implementation or impact customer service activation.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews throughout the implementation lifecycle when significant design changes occur.
  • Escalate technical concerns early with recommended corrective actions.
  • Ensure engineering, provisioning, and construction teams have all information necessary to execute successfully.
  • Reduce installation fallout by identifying technical issues before they become schedule-impacting problems.

  • Develop and maintain technical validation checklists and quality review processes.
  • Recommend improvements to product documentation, engineering standards, and sales processes.
  • Identify recurring causes of implementation delays and recommend preventive solutions.
  • Assist in developing standardized design review procedures across the organization.
  • Support initiatives focused on improving forecast accuracy and installation performance


Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 8+ years of telecommunications engineering, network design, service delivery, or solutions architecture experience.
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Metro and long-haul fiber networks
  • DWDM and optical transport technologies
  • Ethernet services
  • IP networking fundamentals
  • Fiber construction and splicing practices
  • Carrier access and last-mile connectivity
  • Experience reviewing technical network designs and engineering documentation.
  • Strong understanding of telecom implementation lifecycle from opportunity through service activation.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, fiber route documentation, splice diagrams, and Bills of Material.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
