Title: SharePoint Online Consultant (Data Migration Specialist)
Location: Hybrid / Irvine, CA
Ekman Associates is a management consulting firm that specializes in developing business, digital, and technology strategy, delivering solutions, and addressing human resource demands.
Summary:
We are seeking an experienced SharePoint Online Consultant to lead a critical data migration initiative from Egnyte to Microsoft SharePoint Online. As the technical lead for this project, you will collaborate closely with the IT Director and business stakeholders to Client, architecture, map, and execute the secure transfer of cloud file storage assets. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of complex cloud-to-cloud migrations, deep expertise in SharePoint architecture, and a strong understanding of maintaining data integrity, metadata, and folder permissions across platforms.
Responsibilities:
Assessment & Strategy Planning
  • Conduct a thorough discovery and audit of the existing Egnyte environment (data volume, folder structures, user permissions, active vs. archival data).
  • Design the target SharePoint Online architecture, including site collections, hub sites, document libraries, metadata structures, and content types, aligning with organizational governance standards.
  • Formulate a comprehensive migration strategy, risk mitigation plan, and timeline minimizes business disruption.
Migration Execution
  • Configure and deploy enterprise migration tools (e.g., ShareGate, SharePoint Migration tool, or specialized API scripts) to facilitate data transfer.
  • Establish data mapping schemas, ensuring accurate translation of Egnyte permissions (collaborators, groups) to SharePoint Online permissions (Azure AD/Entra ID groups, site-level permissions).
  • Execute pilot migrations to validate speed, accuracy, and tool configuration, followed by the execution of phased batch migrations and final delta cutovers.
Validation, Testing & Security
  • Conduct post-migration verification audits to ensure data integrity, structural alignment, and permission compliance.
  • Implement Microsoft 365 security best practices, including conditional access policies, external sharing restrictions, and data loss prevention (DLP) parameters within the new environment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve any migration errors, permissions mismatches, or corrupted file flags.
Governance & Handover
  • Document the final SharePoint Online architecture, permission matrix, and migration configurations for the business teams
  • Provide post-migration hypercare support to resolve end-user access issues during the initial rollout.
  • Assist in establishing standard operating procedures (SOPs) for SharePoint governance and lifecycle management moving forward.
Qualifications:
  • SharePoint Expertise: Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience architecting, configuring, and managing Microsoft SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 ecosystems.
  • Migration Experience: Proven history of executing at least 2 large-scale SharePoint migrations, with specific, direct experience migrating from Egnyte to SharePoint Online.
  • Migration Toolsets: Expert-level proficiency with industrial migration tools such as ShareGate, Mover.io, or Microsoft Migration Manager.
  • Scripting & Automation: Strong PowerShell scripting skills, particularly with the PnP SharePoint.
  • Identity & Access Management: Solid understanding of Azure AD / Microsoft Entra ID groups, nested permissions, and security roles.
  • Information Architecture: Deep knowledge of SharePoint taxonomy, managed metadata, retention policies, and document management principles.
  • Business Analysis – Experience working with business teams to gather requirements and fulfill those requirements.
  • Microsoft Certifications such as Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert or SharePoint Administrator/developer
  • Excellent communication and technical writing skills, with the ability to translate complex data structures into clear documentation.
  • Prior experience working in structured project management environments. This is not a backend administrative tasks, this is a project requiring heavy engagement with business teams, it would require heavy collaboration and communication skills.
