Slitter Operator Helper
 
Location: Shelby Twp, MI  Shift: 1st  Pay: $18-$20
 
Job Summary
 
Are you looking for a full-time, temporary-to-hire opportunity to get your foot in the door with a great local company? We are hiring a Slitter Operator Helper in Shelby Twp, MI. If you have some knowledge of steel manufacturing and experience working with steel slitters, you’ll be an essential part of the team, responsible for assisting with the operation of steel slitters and ensuring quality control.
 
What You'll Be Doing
 
A typical day for the Slitter Operator Helper involves:
  • Slitting Support: Helping in the operation of steel slitters, including assembling separator arms.
  • Coil Handling: Using associated equipment (including Overhead Crane) to load and unload coils, and removing finished coils from the recoiled.
  • Quality & Inspection: Identifying different grades of steel and any problems or defects as the steel is rewound. Using tools like a Micrometer, Caliper, and Tape Measure for checks.
  • Finishing & Documentation: Applying OD bands to coils using banding equipment and documenting the cut #, coil dimensions, and heat # on each coil.
  • Safety & Maintenance: Being responsible for keeping the work area clean and orderly and reporting any quality concerns to the supervisor immediately, including stopping production to prevent nonconformance.
 
What We're Looking For
 
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:
 
Qualifications:
  • Must have some knowledge of steel manufacturing.
  • Experience working on steel slitters as an operator or helper is a plus.
  • The ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must possess basic reading, writing, and math skills.
 
Skills:
  • Attention to Quality: Ability to identify defects and actively report any quality concerns to prevent nonconformance.
  • Reading & Measurement: Competency in documenting information and using precision measuring tools (Micrometer, Caliper, Tape Measure).
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs and perform hands-on work in a manufacturing environment.
