Job description

MAIN FUNCTION

The Shipping Supervisor is responsible for assisting the Shipping Superintendent in the coordination and direction of daily activities in the shipping department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise, train, and develop shipping department personnel to provide quality workmanship, knowledge of the plant quality system, and a strong safety program
  • Provide safety training to all shipping employees; actively enforce all plant safety programs and policies
  • Monitor the quality system ensuring that all loading procedures are current, up to date and are being followed by the employees
  • Schedule of daily loading activities using all resources available
  • Direct packaging, identification, and shipping of product to ensure the material is received in good condition
  • Develop ongoing relationships with customer service and suppliers
  • Arranges the day-to-day record keeping and administrative functions relating to the shipping employees, absenteeism, vacation schedules, work schedules, overtime records and accident reports. Including reviewing punches in the Kronos system
  • Arranges the shipping department day-to-day record keeping relating to equipment calibrations, equipment, work orders and equipment maintenance and repair
  • Assist in material management and inventory
  • Assure continued compliance and development of ISO 9001:2000 registration
  • Assist in assurance of compliance with all appropriate regulatory agencies
  • Improve people performance through coaching, education and training to ensure long-term dependability and increase productivity
  • Provide leadership for continued improvement in efficiencies and quality

CHARACTERISTICS

  • High energy level, team player, excellent work ethic, with strong management skills
  • Able to develop and enhance relationships with peers, customers, suppliers and auditors

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • College degree preferred.
  • Two to five years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or AS400 database programs
  • One to two years of Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • Effective communicator, both oral and written
