Position Overview:
The Logistics and Transportation Manager is responsible for overseeing daily logistics and transportation operations, including inventory control, receiving and distribution, supply chain support, and the coordination of resident transportation within a federally contracted ICE residential facility in Alexandria, LA.
This position provides direct supervision of logistics and transportation staff and ensures the efficient flow, tracking, and availability of supplies, equipment, operational materials, vehicles, and transportation resources necessary to support facility operations. The Logistics and Transportation Manager is also responsible for coordinating the safe, timely, and efficient transportation of residents to and from the Short-Term Housing Facility (STHF) and other authorized locations, as required by facility operations.
The Logistics and Transportation Manager works closely with facility leadership and multiple departments to coordinate transportation schedules, staffing, vehicle availability, resident movements, and logistics activities.
This role operates in a 24/7 facility environment and requires strong leadership, organizational and scheduling skills, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume setting.
The Logistics and Transportation Manager serves as the onsite lead responsible for the execution of logistics and transportation operations and supervision of assigned staff.
Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Logistics Operations
  • Oversee daily logistics activities including receiving, storage, inventory control, and distribution of supplies and materials.
  • Ensure timely movement and availability of supplies, equipment, and operational materials throughout the facility.
  • Maintain organized warehouse and storage areas and monitor stock levels.
  • Track inventory, deliveries, transfers, and logistics activity using approved systems.
  • Identify and resolve logistics issues that could affect facility operations.

Transportation & Resident Movement Coordination
  • Coordinate the transportation of residents to and from the Short-Term Housing Facility and other authorized locations in accordance with facility requirements and established procedures.
  • Develop and maintain transportation schedules based on operational needs and authorized resident movements.
  • Coordinate driver assignments, transportation staffing, vehicle availability, and other resources necessary to complete scheduled transportation.
  • Communicate transportation schedules, changes, delays, and other relevant information to appropriate facility personnel and departments.
  • Coordinate with operations, security, medical, family services, and other departments as necessary to support resident transportation requirements.
  • Ensure transportation activities are conducted safely, professionally, and in accordance with applicable facility procedures and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain accurate transportation logs, schedules, vehicle records, and other required documentation.
  • Monitor vehicle availability and coordinate required inspections, maintenance, or service to ensure vehicles remain operational and available for scheduled transportation.
  • Respond to changing transportation requirements and adjust schedules, staffing, vehicles, and resources as necessary.
  • Coordinate internal movement of supplies, equipment, and materials as needed.

Staff Supervision
  • Supervise, schedule, and assign duties to logistics and transportation staff across shifts.
  • Coordinate staffing assignments based on logistics and transportation requirements.
  • Monitor staff performance and ensure adherence to procedures and safety standards.
  • Provide coaching, training, and daily operational direction.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage in a 24/7 environment.

Inventory & Vendor Support
  • Maintain accurate inventory records and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Monitor incoming deliveries and verify accuracy of shipments.
  • Coordinate with vendors and escalate shortages or delays as needed.
  • Support routine reporting on inventory status and logistics activity.
  • Monitor supply levels and anticipate operational needs to prevent shortages.

Collaboration & Operational Support
  • Coordinate with operations, transportation, facilities, and other teams to support logistics and transportation needs.
  • Participate in briefings and shift handoffs as needed.
  • Communicate transportation schedules, supply status, operational issues, and updates to leadership.
  • Support emergency response logistics, transportation needs, and rapid supply distribution when required.
  • Assist leadership with operational planning and allocation of logistics and transportation resources.

Compliance & Safety
  • Ensure safe handling, storage, and distribution of supplies and materials.
  • Ensure transportation operations are conducted in accordance with applicable safety requirements, facility procedures, and contractual requirements.
  • Ensure assigned staff follow established transportation, vehicle, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain required logistics and transportation records and documentation.
  • Follow facility safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with federal contract and facility requirements.
  • Promote a safe, organized, professional, and efficient logistics and transportation environment.

Required Qualifications & Core Competencies:
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in logistics, warehouse operations, supply chain, transportation coordination, or related supervisory role.
  • Prior experience in residential, shelter, healthcare, correctional, humanitarian, or high-volume operational environments strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising staff in shift-based operations.
  • Strong knowledge of inventory control, warehousing, and logistics coordination.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced 24/7 environment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare operational reports.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal) to facilitate communication with on-site personnel, government officials, and vendors.
  • Ability to pass required federal background clearance.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Ability to safely operate facility vehicles or equipment as assigned.

Desired Skills:
  • Bilingual ability (Spanish or other commonly encountered languages) preferred.
  • Experience in government-contracted, residential, shelter, or institutional environments.
  • Experience supporting family residential or humanitarian operations.
  • Training in trauma-informed care, conflict resolution, or de-escalation techniques.
  • Experience improving logistics workflows or supply chain processes.
  • OSHA, warehouse safety, forklift, or logistics certifications preferred.
