Senior Logistics Manager – Remote (California-Based, Travel Required)

A growing logistics organization is seeking a Senior Logistics Manager to lead carrier compliance, optimize transportation strategies, and drive operational excellence across multi‑site logistics operations. This role partners closely with Finance, Distribution, and Procurement to ensure cost‑effective, compliant, and high‑performance transportation solutions.

Role Overview

The Senior Logistics Manager oversees carrier compliance, rate management, vendor pickup strategy, and logistics billing. This leader develops and implements processes that improve service quality, strengthen cost control, and enhance overall logistics performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carrier compliance oversight — Ensure all freight carriers meet company policies, regulatory requirements, safety standards, and performance expectations.
  • Rate & contract management — Manage carrier rates, negotiate contracts, and collaborate with Finance to structure agreements aligned with financial goals.
  • KPI development — Establish and monitor KPIs for on‑time delivery, safety, service quality, and contract adherence.
  • Vendor pickup strategy — Design and optimize transportation schedules, routing, and vendor pickup operations to balance cost and service.
  • Operational leadership — Develop strategic and tactical direction for logistics operations across all locations; ensure strong performance management and financial accountability.
  • Process improvement — Implement procedures that enhance service strategy, cost control, and operational efficiency.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration — Partner with distribution, procurement, and other operational teams to streamline workflows and improve logistics outcomes.
  • Safety & compliance — Enforce company safety policies, SOPs, OSHA standards, and safe‑practice guidelines.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in Logistics Management
  • Proven leadership ability with experience managing diverse teams
  • Strong negotiation skills (carrier, customer, margin integrity)
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, evolving environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and analytical abilities
  • Proficiency with logistics and transportation systems, including:

  • Load boards & freight calculators
  • Planner, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, Visio
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred (or equivalent experience)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Ability to traverse warehouse and distribution center environments
  • Must be able to work in varying temperatures within DC environments
