JOB PURPOSE
The Commissions Analyst is responsible for administering internal and external sales commission programs and ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant commission payments. This role supports commission calculations, reporting, data maintenance, payout validation, issue resolution, and related financial processes. The analyst partners with Sales, Finance, Payroll, and Accounts Payable to provide high-quality support for the organization's incentive compensation programs while maintaining compliance with internal controls and company policies.
Position Summary:
The Commissions Analyst is responsible for administering internal (employee) and external (distributor) sales commission programs. This role supports accurate and timely calculation, processing, reporting, and analysis of sales incentive compensation. The analyst works closely with Sales, Finance, Payroll, and Accounts Payable to ensure commission payments are processed accurately and assists with commission inquiries, reporting, and program administration.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing, validating, and processing commission calculations accurately and timely based on applicable contracted commission rates, sales attainment, and applicable quotas for external distributors, internal sales representatives, and sales management.
  • Interpret sales representative agreements and other equivalent contracts and assist with loading, updating, and maintaining commission rates, quotas, and variable compensation terms and conditions within the commissions accounting system.
  • Ensure commission payment data is accurately submitted to Accounts Payable and Payroll for processing and reporting.
  • Maintain accurate and timely commission system data, including contracts, rate tables, sales quotas, compensation plans, and other compensation-related information.
  • Research and resolve commission payment inquiries, discrepancies, and routine sales compensation issues in a timely manner, escalating complex matters as appropriate.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and timely communication to sales representatives, managers, and distribution partners regarding commission-related matters.
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc commission reports, analyses, and supporting documentation to support sales management and business decision-making.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable internal controls, company policies, and SOX requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit activities by providing requested documentation, reports, and analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support initiatives, including testing, validation, and implementation activities, that enhance the accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and consistency of commission administration processes.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
Experience, Skills & Competencies:
  • 1-3 years of professional experience in Finance, Accounting, Compensation Administration, Sales Operations, or another analytical business function.
  • Experience extracting, analyzing, validating, and reporting data from ERP, CRM, business intelligence platforms, or similar business systems.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, manage competing deadlines, and work effectively under pressure.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively, both verbally and in writing, with peers, leadership, distribution partners, and sales representatives.
  • Working knowledge of commission plans, payout calculations, and sales compensation administration.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with advanced Excel skills required, including experience with formulas, pivot tables, lookups, data analysis, and reporting.
