Job description

Fractional SME Roster (Pilot)

The Fractional SME Roster connects senior technical professionals with Tulsa/OKC companies that need strategic expertise without full-time headcount. This is a pilot program to build a curated roster before launching to client companies.

These aren't independent consulting businesses โ€” this roster is for actively employed full-time professionals who want strategic side projects (5โ€“15 hours/week) to stay engaged with emerging technology and high-impact work beyond their regular roles.

Tech Partners handles client matching, contracts, invoicing, and relationship management. You focus on delivering expertise.

We're looking for senior technical professionals who:

  • Have 8+ years of relevant experience in technical leadership, architecture, or specialized SME roles
  • Are currently employed full-time (we verify no conflicts of interest with your primary employer)
  • Are available for 5โ€“15 hours per week on a project or retainer basis
  • Are based in or familiar with the Tulsa/OKC tech ecosystem
  • Want strategic project work that challenges them beyond their day job

Note: This is a curated roster. We review submissions weekly and will respond within 7 business days.

What We Provide

  • Vetted project opportunities matched to your expertise
  • Client relationship management (scoping, contracts, invoicing, payment processing)
  • Structured engagement models: Advisory Consults (hourly), Fractional Build Support (project-based), Embedded Fractional Lead (ongoing retainer)
  • Flexibility to maintain your FTE role while building your advisory portfolio
  • Potential pathways to full-time opportunities if desired (standard Tech Partners placement fees apply)

Tech Partners charges clients a 20-30% markup on your agreed rate. You set your rate, we handle the admin.

What We Ask From You

To join the roster, submit:

  1. Your current resume or CV
  2. Your target hourly compensation range ($75โ€“$250/hour, typical for fractional work)
  3. Your primary specialty or expertise area (e.g., "Cloud Architecture - AWS/Azure migration and infrastructure design")
  4. Target project types you're interested in (e.g., "Technical due diligence for acquisitions, roadmap assessment, cloud migration planning")
  5. Your current availability (hours per week, preferred engagement length, remote/hybrid/onsite preference)
  6. Confirmation of current FTE employment status and employer name (for conflict-of-interest verification only)

Roster members are expected to:

  • Respond promptly to project opportunities (within 48 hours)
  • Maintain professional communication throughout engagements
  • Deliver work that reflects senior-level expertise and accountability
  • Disclose any potential conflicts of interest before accepting projects

Focus Areas

We support fractional professionals across:

Technical Leadership Engineering Directors | CTOs | VPs of Engineering | Product Leaders | Technical Program Managers

Architecture & Infrastructure Cloud Architects (AWS/Azure/GCP) | Solutions Architects | DevOps/Platform Engineers | Security Architects | Enterprise Architects

Data & AI Data Architects | ML Engineers | Analytics Leaders | AI Strategy Consultants | Data Platform Engineers

Specialized SMEs Backend/Frontend Architects | API Strategy & Integration | Legacy Modernization | System Design | Performance Engineering

Typical Engagement Types

  • Advisory Consults: 2โ€“5 hours, one-time or recurring. Technical assessments, architecture reviews, roadmap feedback, and vendor evaluation.
  • Fractional Build Support: 10โ€“40 hours over 2โ€“8 weeks. MVP scoping, proof-of-concept development, technical documentation, and migration planning.
  • Embedded Fractional Lead: Ongoing retainer, 5โ€“15 hours/week. Interim CTO/VP Engineering, embedded architect, strategic advisor.

How It Works

  1. You apply through this posting with your resume, hourly range, specialty, and target projects.
  2. We review your submission and add qualified candidates to the active roster.
  3. We match incoming client projects with roster members based on expertise and availability.
  4. We facilitate introductions via a discovery call to confirm fit and scope.
  5. Scope and terms are finalized (rate, deliverables, timeline, communication cadence).
  6. Engagement begins โ€” you deliver, Tech Partners invoices clients and pays you on NET-15 terms.
  7. Extensions or conversions happen organically based on project success and client needs.

Important Disclaimers

  • Fractional professionals on this roster are independent contractors, not Tech Partners employees.
  • All work must be performed outside your primary FTE employment with no conflicts of interest. We verify this before matching.
  • Engagements are project-based or retainer-based โ€” not permanent employment unless explicitly converted.
  • Tech Partners facilitates client relationships but is not responsible for work quality or deliverables beyond standard professional service expectations.
  • If a fractional engagement converts to a full-time hire, standard Tech Partners placement fees apply (20% of first-year base salary).
  • This is a pilot program. Roster structure and terms may evolve based on early feedback.

Compensation Guidance

Typical fractional hourly rates in the Tulsa/OKC market:

  • $75โ€“$125/hour: Senior ICs with specialized expertise (8โ€“12 years experience)
  • $125โ€“$175/hour: Technical leads, architects, principal engineers (12โ€“15 years experience)
  • $175โ€“$250/hour: Director-level, fractional CTO/VP, niche expertise (15+ years experience)

Set your rate based on your experience, specialty depth, and target project types. Tech Partners adds 20%-30% markup when billing clients.

Ready to Join the Roster?

Submit your information using this application to join the Fractional SME Roster pilot. We're building the roster now and will begin matching with client companies in 3โ€“4 weeks.
