Join MGC's Litigation Team in Columbia, SC!

MGC is an industry leading civil litigation firm celebrating 31 years of excellence spanning 22 offices across 12 states.

We are currently seeking an experienced Litigation Scheduler to join our team in our Columbia, SC office. Candidates must be professional, motivated, organized and possess exceptional oral and written communication skills. Candidates must also have 3-5 years of related work experience. Typing/transcription skills required.

This position offers flexibility regarding a hybrid/remote work arrangement once trained. Weโ€™re looking for candidates that work well in a fast-paced environment. (Prior law firm or insurance experience would be beneficial, but not necessary). This position will support the Litigation team by completing non-billable tasks associated with scheduling depositions, mediations etc. in a manner consistent with MGC policies, procedures, quality, standards, client needs and applicable local, state, and federal regulations.ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:ย 

  • Communicate with MGC handling attorney to determine identity of deponent, deadlines for completion of deposition and any other scheduling requirements.
  • Contact deponent, client/carrier and parties to obtain date for deposition of deponent.
  • Obtain court reporter for deposition of deponent (check Client Guidelines for any client requirements for court reporting prior to obtaining court reporter)
  • Complete Deposition Docket in Prolaw with date and details of location, court reporter name and contact information and email paralegal advising that deposition has been set.ย  (complete Docket details pursuant to MGC firm standard)
  • Complete any applicable Client Deposition Docket in Prolaw with date of deposition.
  • Communicate with MGC handling attorney to determine deadline for mediation and any other scheduling requirements.
  • Contact mediator, client/carrier and parties to obtain date for mediation.ย  Also obtain permission for client to attend by telephone standby.
  • Complete Mediation Docket in Prolaw with date of mediation, mediator name and contact information, details of location and client attendance requirements.ย  Email legal assistant advising that mediation has been set. (complete Docket details pursuant to MGC firm standard)
  • Complete any applicable Client Mediation Docket in Prolaw with date of mediation.
  • Schedule any and all other events as requested and complete applicable Docket in Prolaw with date and details of location.ย 
  • Cooperates with co-workers
  • Responds politely to internal staff, clients, vendors, etc.
  • Works as a member of a teamย 
  • Accepts change in a productive manner
  • Performs other duties as necessary or assigned

Special skills, knowledge, abilities

  • Ability to type 50+ wpm.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate by e-mail and telephone with a diverse group of clients, attorneys and staff and to provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact
  • Possess excellent organizational skills and pay close attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ability to gain competence in database management systems
  • Must possess ability to take initiative and handle various tasks simultaneously while working efficiently, effectively and independently under minimal supervision
  • Must have ability to work in a high-pressure environment
  • Is neat with self and conducts self in a respectable, responsible, courteous manner.
