What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Food Technologist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Food Technologist, you need a background in food science or related fields, strong analytical abilities, and experience with food safety standards. Familiarity with technical tools such as laboratory information management systems (LIMS), quality assurance software, and certifications like HACCP are typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving, and project management skills are crucial for collaborating remotely and ensuring product quality. These competencies are essential for maintaining food safety, regulatory compliance, and effective remote teamwork in the food industry.

How do remote food technology professionals typically collaborate with on-site teams and laboratory staff?

Remote food technology professionals frequently use digital collaboration tools, such as video conferencing, shared data platforms, and project management software, to communicate with on-site teams and laboratory staff. They may participate in virtual meetings to discuss product development, analyze test results, and troubleshoot issues in real-time. Regular documentation and clear communication are essential, as remote team members often rely on detailed reports, digital samples, and virtual presentations to stay aligned with laboratory activities and ensure project milestones are met efficiently.

What is remote food technology?

Remote food technology refers to the use of digital and communication tools to manage, monitor, and optimize food production, safety, and innovation from a distance. Professionals in this field may work on tasks such as product development, quality assurance, or food safety audits without being physically present at production sites. This is made possible by leveraging remote sensing devices, cloud-based data platforms, and virtual collaboration software. The role can also involve providing technical support or conducting training sessions online. Remote food technology helps companies maintain high standards while enabling flexible work arrangements.

Job description

ezCater is the #1 food tech platform for workplaces in the US. The company makes it easy for any organization to manage its food needs and order from over 125,000 restaurants nationwide. For workplaces, ezCater provides flexible and scalable solutions for everything from employee meal programs to one-off meetings, all backed by beyond helpful 24/7 service and business-grade reliability. For restaurant partners, ezCater helps grow their business by bringing them new high-value customers and large orders.
What's an Internal Communications Lead at ezCater?
A storyteller. A connector. An exceptional communicator. As a remote-hybrid office culture, it's more important than ever that our team of 800+ across 40+ states stays connected.
We're looking for an internal communications rockstar to ensure that the right information reaches everyone, connections between people and departments are being made, and all of us are aligned to what's important.
Working closely with many partners across the business throughout ezCater, our Internal Communications Lead tells the ezCater story to employees: whether that's sharing company priorities, our product roadmap, or connecting people to our culture. But we don't want you to simply take our story and communicate it - we want you to beat it up, challenge it, and, as the voice of our employees, create the internal narrative that will best resonate with our team. Not only should you have experience working with senior leaders, but you should have the confidence to challenge them and push them towards new ways of thinking.
What You'll Do:
  • Report to our Director, Communications and Content, within the Marketing team, and work closely with many stakeholders across the business.
  • Develop and lead internal comms initiatives that keep us informed and connected during rocketship growth.
  • Manage an internal comms editorial calendar, aligning with other business partners and using it to deliver communications relating to ezCater's business strategy and culture, people priorities, and change communication.
  • Figure out what we want and need to say, when to say it, and how to say it across internal channels (company meetings, email, Slack, events, Confluence).
  • Create innovative ways to communicate that inform and motivate employees by trying and tracking new channels, content, and media.
  • Be completely plugged in to every part of the business, building strong relationships in every department, and always seeking out the most inspiring stories. Share them in a way that best excites and engages the ezCater team across internal channels

What You Have:
  • 7+ years of communications experience, preferably leading internal communications for similar stage remote or hybrid companies.
  • Ability to translate business goals into a compelling communications strategy that is rooted in our business, people, and culture. You'll own that strategy, setting and achieving ambitious goals for the program.
  • Excellent communication skills - written, visual and verbal - and the ability to translate them into emails, presentations, speeches, etc.
  • Experience working with senior leaders and the confidence to challenge and guide the messages they deliver and the way they deliver them.
  • The agility to pivot and thrive in an ever changing environment, juggling competing tasks with exceptional organization.
  • Ability to travel up to 5 days per quarter for Together Weeks, team gatherings and other events, when applicable.

The national total targetcash compensation range for this position, including base salary and bonus target, is $129,000-$164,000 annually.*
*Please note: Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including prior experience, expertise and region & may vary from the amount above. This range does not represent additional compensation benefits (such as equity, 401K or medical, dental or vision insurance).
ezCater does not sponsor applicants for work visas or legal permanent residence.
What You'll Get from Us:
You'll get a terrifically compelling experience in an innovative, high performing environment. You'll get to work with engaged and passionate colleagues on challenging and impactful projects. You will have opportunities to grow in your career, and work in a place that values work/life harmony.
Oh, and you'll get all this: Market competitive salary, stock options that you'll help make worth a lot, 12 paid holidays, flexible PTO, 401K with ezCater match, health/dental/FSA, long-term disability insurance, mental health and family planning resources, remote-hybrid work from our awesome Boston office OR your home OR a mixture of both home and office, a tremendous amount of responsibility and autonomy, wicked awesome co-workers, employee meal program (and many more goodies) when you're in our office, and knowing that you helped transform the food for work space.

We embrace humans of every background, appearance, race, religion, color, national origin, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, and disability status. At the same time, we do not employ jerks, even brilliant ones. Following a conditional offer of employment, ezCater may require a background check.
