What is a remote agile coach?

A Remote Agile Coach is a professional who helps teams and organizations adopt and improve Agile methodologies while working from a remote location. They guide teams in implementing Agile practices such as Scrum or Kanban, facilitate collaboration, and promote continuous improvement, all without being physically present. Remote Agile Coaches use digital tools to communicate, run workshops, and support teams in overcoming challenges related to remote work and Agile transformation.

What does a remote agile coach do?

Agile is a project management method that provides a business with an alternative to traditional project management methodologies for software development. As a remote Agile coach, you work from home to help the team with which you are working. Your duties and responsibilities in this virtual job include educating your colleagues about the principles of Agile, mentoring others so that they can gain the understanding necessary to properly implement Agile, working on the development of an Agile adoption strategy, and helping the company you work with implement Agile methodology.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote agile coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Agile Coach, you need deep expertise in Agile methodologies, strong facilitation skills, and experience in software development or IT project management, often supported by certifications such as Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP). Familiarity with remote collaboration tools like Jira, Trello, Miro, and video conferencing platforms is essential. Exceptional communication, active listening, and coaching abilities help foster trust, engagement, and growth within distributed teams. These skills enable Agile Coaches to effectively guide teams, drive continuous improvement, and ensure project success in a remote work environment.

How does a remote agile coach typically facilitate team collaboration and maintain engagement in a virtual environment?

A Remote Agile Coach often leverages a variety of digital tools—such as video conferencing platforms, virtual whiteboards, and project management software—to facilitate communication and collaboration among distributed teams. They schedule regular ceremonies (like stand-ups, retrospectives, and sprint planning) and encourage active participation by creating a supportive, inclusive online atmosphere. Maintaining engagement remotely can be challenging, so they frequently check in with team members, foster transparency, and employ interactive activities to keep everyone involved. Successful Agile Coaches also work closely with Product Owners and Scrum Masters to identify and address any obstacles to team productivity or morale.

Job description

Fully Remote | 12-Month Contract (Potential to Extend)

We're looking for an experienced Scrum Master who's passionate about Agile, continuous improvement, and helping teams do their best work. In this role, you'll act as a servant leader and Agile coach, guiding teams and stakeholders to embrace modern product development practices while fostering a healthy, high‐performing team culture.

This is a fully remote, long‐term contract opportunity supporting a large, mission‐driven organization in the healthcare space.

What You'll Do

  • Champion Agile values, principles, and practices across teams and the broader organization
  • Facilitate Scrum ceremonies and support teams in applying frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban, and scaled Agile
  • Coach teams, leaders, and stakeholders on modern product development and delivery practices
  • Remove impediments and help teams continuously improve how they work
  • Serve as a facilitator, mentor, and coach—adapting your role as needed (Scrum Master, Team Coach, Enterprise Coach)
  • Measure progress using learning milestones and outcomes, not just delivery metrics
  • Promote a learning culture built on shared vision, collaboration, systems thinking, and continuous growth
  • Model and reinforce the Scrum values of focus, courage, openness, commitment, and respect

What You Bring

Required

  • 3+ years of experience in Product and/or IT environments
  • 2+ years working as a Scrum Master, Product Owner, or Agile Coach
  • Hands‐on experience with multiple Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, LeSS, etc.)
  • Experience supporting large, complex initiatives with multiple Scrum teams
  • Experience leveraging AI tools within the software development lifecycle to improve quality and efficiency
  • Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, and conflict‐resolution skills

Nice to Have

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
  • Experience developing DevOps practices and Agile/DevOps culture
  • Curriculum development and training delivery experience
  • Healthcare industry experience
  • Familiarity with multiple delivery methodologies and knowing when to apply them
  • Active participation in Agile or delivery communities
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% (preferred, not required)
