What is a recruiter?

Recruiters are professionals who help organizations find and hire suitable candidates for job openings. They may work internally within a company's human resources department or externally for staffing agencies. Recruiters source candidates, review resumes, conduct interviews, and coordinate the hiring process. Their goal is to match qualified individuals with roles that fit their skills and the employer's needs. Effective recruiters build strong networks and maintain relationships with both employers and job seekers.

What do recruiters do?

The primary role of a recruiter is to match job seekers with job vacancies based on a candidate’s credentials and a company’s needs. A recruiter seeks out qualified candidates, then serves as a liaison between the candidate and the company to meet the demands of both parties regarding job duties and compensation. Recruiters save companies time by weeding out unqualified or unfit job seekers, and they help job seekers by connecting them with opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a recruiter, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Recruiter, strong interpersonal skills, knowledge of talent acquisition strategies, and a background in human resources or business are essential, often supported by a bachelor’s degree. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), sourcing platforms like LinkedIn Recruiter, and HR certifications such as SHRM or PHR are commonly required. Excellent communication, active listening, and relationship-building abilities help recruiters stand out in engaging both clients and candidates. These skills are crucial for matching the right talent to organizational needs and ensuring a smooth hiring process.

What are some common challenges recruiters face when sourcing candidates, and how can they overcome them?

Recruiters often face challenges such as finding qualified candidates for hard-to-fill roles, standing out to top talent in a competitive market, and managing a high volume of applications efficiently. To overcome these hurdles, recruiters leverage creative sourcing strategies, utilize advanced applicant tracking systems, and build strong employer branding to attract passive candidates. Additionally, maintaining clear communication with hiring managers and regularly updating sourcing techniques can help ensure a smoother recruitment process.

Job description

Recruiter

Remote | $50,000–$60,000 Base + Uncapped Commission

Do you love recruiting but feel limited by rigid processes, unrealistic volume expectations or a lack of resources?

Our client is a woman-owned boutique search firm known for its collaborative culture, hands-on leadership and high-touch approach to recruiting. This is a small, close-knit team where everyone works hard, shares ideas and celebrates each other’s wins.

This opportunity is for a true doer. On a team this size, there’s nowhere to hide—your effort, follow-through and results are visible. You’ll need to stay active, take ownership of your searches and keep things moving without constant direction.

In return, you’ll have direct access to senior leadership, a voice in improving processes and the tools, training and support needed to grow professionally and financially.

Why Join the Team?

  • $50,000–$60,000 base salary, depending on experience
  • Uncapped placement commissions
  • 3% company contribution to your 401(k)
  • 3 weeks of PTO
  • Medical and dental plans available
  • Fully remote work environment
  • Direct access to experienced recruiters and senior leadership
  • Structured training and continued professional development
  • Modern recruiting and sourcing tools
  • The opportunity to test new technology and improve recruiting processes
  • A highly visible role where your work directly contributes to the firm’s success

What You’ll Do

  • Manage searches from sourcing through candidate placement
  • Develop creative sourcing strategies for hard-to-find professionals
  • Identify and engage passive candidates through LinkedIn Recruiter, HireEZ and other sourcing platforms
  • Interview and evaluate candidates beyond what appears on their resumes
  • Build long-term relationships with candidates
  • Partner with leadership to understand each client, position and search strategy
  • Maintain organized pipelines and accurate information within the ATS
  • Contribute ideas that help the team recruit more effectively
  • Deliver the responsive, high-touch experience the firm’s clients and candidates expect

What You Bring

  • 5+ more years of recruiting experience, agency experience is a plus
  • Strong experience sourcing and engaging passive candidates
  • Advanced proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter and internet sourcing tools
  • A natural “detective” mentality—you enjoy finding the person others cannot
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization, follow-through and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple searches independently in a remote environment
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach and willingness to contribute wherever needed
  • Experience in construction, real estate, accounting, finance or legal recruiting is helpful but not required

Location and Schedule

This is a fully remote, U.S.-based position open to candidates in the Pacific, Mountain and Central time zones.

Because the firm primarily serves Pacific Northwest clients and candidates, this position will generally work Pacific Time business hours.

Compensation: $50,000–$60,000 base salary plus uncapped commission and benefits
