Purchasing Manager

The Purchasing Manager is responsible for overseeing the procurement of all materials, supplies, equipment, and services utilized by the company. This role requires strategic vendor negotiations, policy enforcement, and continuous improvement of sourcing practices to ensure cost efficiency and operational excellence.

  • Responsibilities

    • Strategic Sourcing & Supply Chain Management
    • Develop and execute sourcing strategies across domestic, regional, and international markets, with an emphasis on low-cost manufacturing partners.
    • Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers to strengthen supply continuity, cost competitiveness, and manufacturing capability.
    • Monitor global supply market conditions, logistics constraints, and supply chain risks; develop contingency and secondary sourcing plans.
    • Vendor Management
    • Establish and maintain strong relationships with key manufacturing vendors and suppliers.
    • Negotiate contracts to secure competitive pricing, favorable terms and reliable service levels. Manage vendor performance using KPIs, scorecards, and periodic reviews focused on cost, quality, delivery, and service.
    • Address and resolve vendor-related issues, including quality concerns, delays and non-performance.
    • Ensure vendor compliance with company standards, ethical sourcing practices and regulatory requirements.
    • Purchasing Operations
    • Develop, implement and maintain purchasing policies and procedures to ensure consistency and compliance.
    • Review and approve purchase requisitions for proper authorization and accurate accounting codes.
    • Establish and manage blanket purchase orders, monitoring cost and performance throughout the contract term.
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications with a high level of accuracy. Including understanding of drawing Bill's of Material, Measurements in both imperial and metric, revision tracking, etc.
    • Understanding of weldments and mechanical assemblies and how individual components integrate within larger systems.
    • Experience sourcing machined to print parts made from mild steel, alloy steel, and aluminum. Including special processing requirements for various coatings, surface treatments, heat treat, etc.
    • Knowledge of small-quantity and demand-based purchasing practices, with an emphasis on cost efficiency and timely fulfillment.
    • Familiarity with machining and fabrication processes, including milling, lathe, laser cutting, waterjet cutting, etc., and how these impact price, lead times, vendor selection, etc..
    • Ability to collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure materials and components meet design and operational requirements, project budgets, and timely delivery.
    • Investigate and resolve discrepancies related to delayed, damaged, or incomplete shipments.
    • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory standards, including compliance with U.S. laws.
    • Uphold corporate standards for ethical conduct and safety in all procurement activities.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned by S&S Worldwide.

  • NetSuite a plus
  • Ensure adherence to environmental, safety, and regulatory standards, including compliance with U.S. laws.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively both in person and over the phone.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize responsibilities, and maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
