Job description

Department: Supply Chain

Reports To: Purchasing Manager

Classification: Non-exempt (Hourly)

Job Summary:

Responsible for performing purchasing functions, developing internal and external relationships, and strategizing with the Purchasing Manager to optimize purchasing processes.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate daily with internal team members and external suppliers on requests for quotes, purchase orders, and delivery timing. This includes facilitating conference calls with suppliers on purchase order follow-up.
  • Identify suppliers with raw material/processing capabilities based on established specifications; develop strong. working relationships and hold suppliers accountable for delivery timing and other purchase order details.
  • Issue purchase orders for internal parts and services, and external cliental in accordance with established procedures.
  • Analyze purchasing processes on an ongoing basis; identify areas for improvement and implement changes, in conjunction with Purchasing Manager & Purchasing Director.
  • Strategize with Purchasing Manager/ Purchasing Director, and cross-departmentally, on optimal supply chain process paths.
  • Maintain purchasing information, files, and records such as supplier pricing guides, surcharge letters, and order acknowledgements.
  • Manage all documentation to maintain approved supplier status per ISO and accounting guidelines.
  • Occasional day travel is required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Purchasing or Supply Chain experience desired, preferably in the steel industry.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite programs, Internet applications, and database applications required.
