Department Summary
The Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR) is a joint program of the Division of Student Affairs and College of Literature Science and the Arts focused on social justice education and intergroup dialogue. IGR works proactively to promote understanding of intergroup relations inside and outside of the classroom. Multidisciplinary courses and co-curricular programs utilize experiential learning and models of dialogue to help students learn about social inequalities, intergroup relations, and social justice.
Job Summary
This position is primarily charged with the implementation of IGR co-curricular programs, specifically the professional management of CommonGround. CommonGround provides workshops for students in various organizations, units, schools, and colleges across the University. These workshops aim to raise awareness about social identities, social justice, and intergroup relations. CommonGround prepares undergraduate and graduate students to create and facilitate these interactive workshops.
Responsibilities*
Program Management & Direct Service (40%)
  • Lead unit program(s), including:
    • development of programmatic goals, student learning outcomes, and structure
    • creation of training curriculum
    • program planning and implementation
    • marketing, branding, and outreach
    • budget management and reporting to unit leadership
    • consistent assessment of needs and evaluation of program efficacy
  • Manage programs grounded in social justice education, leadership development, intercultural competency training, peer facilitation, and intra- and inter- group dialogue. Perform the daily tasks and duties needed to implement the initiatives? goals

Supervision, Coaching & Advising (35%)
  • Provide developmentally appropriate supervision rooted in social justice education and identity awareness directly to 2-4 graduate students and indirectly to four undergraduate students on the Programming Team and a mixture of approximately 18 graduate and undergraduate student Workshop Facilitators and Curriculum Evaluators
  • Responsible for hiring, onboarding, ongoing development, offboarding, and transitioning work for student employees
  • Use theoretically sound practices for leadership development around issues of social identity and social justice among students
    • attend meetings with student leaders
    • promote inclusive leadership development of students
    • build a cohesive student staff team and student community
    • consult and support during the event/program planning and implementation
    • communicate and interpret organizational and institutional policies and procedures
  • Respond to multiple student communities through supporting, counseling, and connecting them to campus/community resources
  • Leadership in providing crisis intervention, conflict resolution, resource and referral services to students of all identities utilizing a culturally competent framework

Administrative (10%)
  • Manage, collect and maintain statistical information, databases, and evaluations of programs
  • Work with sensitive and protected information with discretion and good judgment to maintain confidentiality and attend to institutional risk-management concerns
  • Assist in the development of a unit culture that is student-centered, utilizing a self-authorship philosophy to guide and collaborate with students and organizations
  • Foster excellent communication and maintain partnerships among administrative offices, academic departments, faculty resources and community resources to promote assigned work projects
  • Responsible for developing the CommonGround budget, tracking expenditures, reconciling and maintaining the budget, and reporting on the budget.

IGR Responsibilities (10%)
  • Serve as a practicum advisor for the Summer Youth Dialogues
  • Assist with IGR's annual National Intergroup Dialogue Institute
  • Serve on IGR committees to further the collective work of IGR (for example: curriculum committee)
  • Collaborate and provide support for other co-curricular programs.
  • Foster a positive workplace climate in which staff and students feel engaged and empowered
  • Other duties as assigned

Service to the Student Life and University Community (5%)
  • Co-partner with Student Life and external units if possible. Co-sponsorships/programs that align with our mission and vision of promoting social justice & diversity efforts on campus
  • Serve on Student Life committees & external committees as individual & unit interests aligned in order to best represent our work and better serve student communities on campus

Required Qualifications*
  • Master's degree in Higher Education Administration, or relevant field preferred (Social Work, Higher Education, Counseling, etc).
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience in student affairs and/or related educational services work with emphasis on program design and implementation skills
  • Experience with student-centered, developmental supervision and coaching
  • Experience in facilitation and/or teaching of social justice education
  • Experience with learning and/or work in the area of intercultural competence, intergroup dialogue, social justice education, and social identity development
  • A general understanding of Student Affairs philosophy and commitment to student development

Desired Qualifications*
  • Experience with curriculum development
  • Experience, understanding, and engagement with issues impacting diverse populations and those who have experienced oppression, specifically in areas of race/ethnicity
  • Working knowledge of University policies and procedures

  • The Program Manager will be asked to work evenings several times a month, and weekends on occasion.

  • May need to move materials up to 30 lbs

This role may have reporting obligations under Title IX and Clery.
Authorization to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment and applicants for this position will not be sponsored for work visas.
Selected candidates whose start date is 4/1/2026 or after, will not be eligible for the university FY26-27 salary/merit plan unless otherwise notified.
Salary may vary depending on qualifications, experience, and education of the selected candidate.
