POSITION SUMMARY

The Director, Product Strategy leads the strategy, planning, and upstream commercialization of ECRI's healthcare technology solutions portfolio. With a strong focus on upstream marketing, customer insight, and market positioning, this role owns product direction based on a deep understanding of healthcare market needs, customer pain points, and emerging opportunities across care settings.

Reporting to the Executive Director of Transformation & Innovation, this role works in close partnership with product leads, downstream marketing, and cross-functional business teams to ensure that ECRI's solutions are well-positioned, clearly defined, and aligned to both customer needs and organizational priorities. The Director serves as the primary bridge between market intelligence and portfolio strategy - ensuring that what ECRI offers is both true to its mission and compelling to those it serves. This role leads alpha and beta program initiatives in collaboration with partners and customers to validate new concepts and refine features prior to launch.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, analytically driven leader with deep healthcare market instincts who can translate customer and market intelligence into actionable product strategy. They bring a forward-thinking mindset, the ability to articulate the business rationale behind product decisions, and an unwavering commitment to ECRI's mission of reducing preventable harm.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reasonable Accommodation Statement:

To accomplish this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation, each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to help enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Essential Functions:

PORTFOLIO STRATEGY & OWNERSHIP
  • Define and maintain a product portfolio strategy that reflects ECRI's mission, competitive positioning, and market opportunities - ensuring that individual solutions connect, complement, and reinforce one another as a coherent suite.
  • Own product roadmaps across the assigned portfolio, driving alignment with ECRI's strategic priorities and ensuring decisions are grounded in both near-term market needs and longer-term strategic bets.
  • Define and maintain Business Requirements Documents (BRDs) as the foundational source of truth for product planning and stakeholder alignment.
  • Make and own product decisions: what to build, evolve, retire, and invest in - presenting the business rationale and projected impact of roadmap investments to leadership in a clear, compelling manner.
  • Identify and prioritize integration opportunities across ECRI's product ecosystem to enhance customer value, streamline workflows, and reduce friction across care settings.
  • Define product-market fit criteria and success metrics for new and evolving solutions, ensuring ongoing measurement against defined KPIs.
MARKET INTELLIGENCE & CUSTOMER INSIGHT
  • Lead upstream marketing activities including market segmentation, customer discovery, win/loss analysis, and competitive intelligence - translating external signals into actionable product direction.
  • Conduct regular customer interviews and lead persona-based user groups to gather insights, validate product concepts, and surface unmet needs; synthesize findings into clear, strategic intelligence that informs roadmap prioritization.
  • Establish and maintain Voice of Customer practices that feed continuous product evolution, closing the loop between market intelligence and what gets built.
  • Represent the market perspective in internal product and investment decisions, ensuring that customer and competitive dynamics are consistently reflected in portfolio strategy.
  • Monitor healthcare market trends, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies relevant to ECRI's solution areas, assessing implications for product positioning and portfolio strategy.
  • Partner with downstream marketing teams to reposition and package existing products for new markets, care settings, and customer segments.
PRODUCT EVOLUTION & MODERNIZATION
  • Lead the ongoing evolution and modernization of ECRI's product portfolio - improving content quality, updating delivery formats, and ensuring solutions remain relevant to current healthcare challenges and customer workflows.
  • Define standards for what a high-quality ECRI product looks like: in terms of depth, usability, accessibility, and integration with customer environments.
  • Drive content strategy decisions in partnership with subject matter experts and editorial teams, balancing mission depth with market accessibility.
  • Lead alpha and beta programs in collaboration with partners and customers to test and refine new features and solution concepts prior to full market release; translate pilot feedback into prioritized product improvements and launch readiness criteria.
  • Identify and close gaps between what customers need and what current products deliver, ensuring ECRI's portfolio reflects the current state of healthcare and patient safety.
  • Support go-to-market planning activities, including product positioning, messaging frameworks, and internal readiness, in partnership with marketing and business line leads.
FUNCTION LEADERSHIP
  • Champion and advance the product management discipline at ECRI - refining processes, frameworks, tools, and ways of working to scale capability as the organization grows.
  • Define how product decisions are made, communicated, and tracked across the organization, driving clarity and accountability in product planning.
  • Serve as an internal advocate for customer-centricity and market responsiveness, ensuring that product thinking is embedded across business lines and leadership decision-making.
  • Develop and maintain materials that articulate the strategic value and impact of ECRI's solutions to healthcare providers, payers, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentor and guide colleagues across the organization on product strategy principles, building shared fluency in product thinking and customer-driven decision-making.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABORATION
  • Work closely with Sales & Marketing to ensure product positioning reflects actual product capabilities - and that market feedback flows back continuously into product direction.
  • Collaborate with Transformation & Innovation to ensure the product roadmap reflects both near-term market needs and longer-term strategic opportunities.
  • Partner with Corp Dev & Strategy on portfolio investments, partnerships, and make-vs-buy decisions.
  • Engage subject matter experts and content teams to balance mission depth with market accessibility across ECRI's solution areas.
  • Partner with Product Operations and internal stakeholders to gather ongoing product feedback, inform backlog prioritization, and maintain a continuous improvement cycle.
  • Communicate product strategy and status updates clearly and consistently to internal audiences at all levels of the organization.

Additional Responsibilities:

Other duties, as assigned.

Accountability Metrics:

Portfolio strategy documented and endorsed by leadership; product roadmaps current and actively maintained.

Quality and depth of upstream market intelligence and customer discovery activities; Voice of Customer process operational and feeding active product decisions.

Measurable progress against portfolio KPIs and product launch milestones, including renewal and expansion rate trends.

Effectiveness of cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment across Sales & Marketing, Transformation & Innovation, and business lines.

Performance and outcomes of alpha/beta programs under management.

Portfolio coherence visible in go-to-market materials: cross-product connections reflected in positioning, messaging, and internal planning.

Product management discipline advanced: processes, frameworks, and decision accountability strengthened across the function.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

7-10 years of progressive experience in B2B healthcare product management, product strategy, or a closely related commercialization role.

Demonstrated experience owning product decisions across a portfolio - not just a single product or feature set - with a track record of translating market intelligence and customer insight into product direction.

Familiarity with healthcare technology solutions and market dynamics across care settings, including health systems, ambulatory care, payers, and/or life sciences.

Experience facilitating customer discovery, persona development, and voice-of-customer research at scale, and translating findings into strategic product direction.

Proven ability to develop and own product roadmaps and requirements documentation in complex, multi-stakeholder environments.

Experience driving product evolution or modernization: content improvement, delivery format updates, or platform transitions.

Experience leading alpha/beta programs and incorporating pilot feedback into product planning and launch readiness.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present product strategy and business rationale clearly to executive-level audiences.

Strong strategic thinking paired with practical execution capability - able to move from market insight to action without losing analytical rigor.

Inquisitive by nature - tendency to challenge assumptions, seek out market signals, and question the status quo of both products and processes.

Action-oriented and self-directed, with the ability to drive work to completion in ambiguous environments with shifting priorities.

Collaborative leader with the ability to build strong working relationships across functions, business lines, and levels of an organization.

Forward-thinking mindset with a genuine commitment to advancing patient safety and ECRI's mission of reducing preventable harm.

Keen attention to detail, balanced with the ability to see and communicate the broader strategic picture.
