Road Machinery & Supplies Co. is looking for an Business Analyst at its Savage, MN branch. In this role, the Business Analyst will extract CDK (RMS’ ERP system) data and create reports to support the managing of machine and equipment inventory. Under direction of the Vice President of Sales & Product Support the Business Analyst may work with other stakeholders to provide information that will help manage our multi-million-dollar fleet of inventory.

Position Summary

The Business Analyst is responsible for supporting data-driven decision-making across Road Machinery & Supplies Co. by analyzing financial, operational, sales, rental, service, and parts information. This role works closely with Finance, Accounting, Business Intelligence, Information Technology, and operational leaders to develop reports, improve business processes, identify trends, and provide actionable insights that support profitable growth and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify trends, variances, opportunities, and risks across branches, departments, and business lines.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve recurring reports, dashboards, and business intelligence tools using systems such as CDK, Power BI, Targit, Excel, or other company reporting platforms.
  • Support monthly and quarterly financial review processes by preparing margin analysis, expense analysis, revenue trends, service department related KPI’s, equipment sales analysis, rental performance, and commission-related reporting.
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, IT, and department leaders to gather business requirements and translate them into reporting, process, or system solutions.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, profitability analysis, and performance measurement for branches, departments, product lines, and strategic initiatives.
  • Evaluate current business processes and recommend improvements to increase accuracy, efficiency, consistency, and visibility.
  • Validate data accuracy, reconcile report outputs to source systems, and document assumptions, definitions, and reporting logic.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses for leadership, including customer, sales, inventory, rental, service, parts, margin, operating expense, and working capital analysis.
  • Support system implementation, integration, testing, and reporting projects as business needs evolve.
  • Communicate findings clearly through written summaries, dashboards, presentations, and discussions with stakeholders at various levels of the organization.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, preferred, and experience or recent curriculum focused on data analytics; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Two or more years of experience, preferred but recent college graduates are welcome, in business analysis, financial analysis, accounting, operations analysis, data analytics, or a related financial / analytical curriculum.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, data validation, lookups, and financial or operational modeling.
  • Experience working with reporting tools, business intelligence platforms, ERP systems, dealer management systems, or database-driven reporting environments.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets, identify meaningful patterns, and convert findings into practical business recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial and operational information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail, sound judgment, and ability to manage multiple priorities while meeting deadlines.
Preferred But Not Required Qualifications
  • Experience with business intelligence and reporting tools.
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, gross margin analysis, inventory, rental fleet economics, service operations, and branch-level financial reporting.
